 Evaluation

Putting It All Together

10% - Weeks 14 and 15

(26 Nov-4 Dec, & 3-9 Dec)

There are three assignments in the Evaluation unit. They must be completed by midnight, Sunday, of Week 15.

Use the forum in WebCT for Questions for Instructor about Evaluation to ask me questions about anything related to the Project.

Use the forum for Student Resources to post URLs to links of interest to the entire class.

Post suggestions about the way the course works in the Suggestion Box.

Use the Student Lounge to talk about whatever you like; it isn't course-related.

It's time to put closure to this portion of your two-semester course. I want you to summarize what you've learned.

Then take some time to think about the goals you want to pursue while getting your college education, and the goals you want to attain in your professional career upon completion of your BSN. (In addition to posting these in Forum 18, you should print out a copy for yourself to keep in your academic portfolio. You can refer back to them from time to time and update them as necessary.)

Because evaluation of what we do in practice is so terribly important, I want you to evaluate how this course worked for you. And that will include an evaluation of how I served your learning needs as your instructor.

Evaluation Assignment A: Summary of What You Learned in This Course This Semester, and Self-Assessment/Evaluation of Your Participation in the Course

Step One (Wk 14):

Part A: Review the course objectives, and reflect on what you have done in the learning activities for the semester. Go back and reread the postings in the threaded-discussion forums for Units 1 through 4, and the Course Project. Be sure to review what you discovered (or already knew) about your learning style.

Write an essay (at least 500-600 words) explaining what you have learned during this semester about yourself, about nursing, about going to school, and about your evolving career. How does what you have learned relate to your forthcoming practice as a nurse with a BSN? How has the process for your learning in this course fit with your learning style. In retrospect, would you have done anything differently this semester?

Part B: Evaluate your participation in the course throughout the entire semester. How did you contribute not only to your own learning but to the learning of others? Did you give this course "your all"--consistently--each week? To what degree did you take a leadership role in the discussions and assignments? What could you have done differently?

Post your essay in the forum for Evaluation A (Learning Summary).

Step Two (Wk 15):

Read the summaries of at least two other classmates, and comment.

Evaluation Assignment B: Goals for your Education and Your Professional Career

Step One (Wk 14):

Go back to the forum for Assignment 2A in Unit Two to review what you wrote about your goals for your baccalaureate education, and to the forums for Assignments 3A, 3B and 3C in Unit Three to review what you wrote about your future nursing practice.

In the forum for Evaluation B (Goals), post a short essay defining your goals for your education, as well as for your professional career. Make your goals feasible for yourself, and formulate them in realistic terms.

Step Two (Wk 15):

Then go back and read and comment on each other's entries.

Evaluation Assignment C: Evaluation of the Course and the Instructor (Wk 15):

Note: To be valid, the evaluation must be submitted ONLY during the 15th week of the course (I will not accept evaluations submitted before the start of the 15th week) .

Be sure to send me an email in WebCT to let me know you submitted the course AND instructor evaluations so that you can receive credit. (You will lose 5 points out of 100 if I don't receive a message from you that you've submitted both evaluations.)

The evaluation is closed (12/10/01).

Finally, use the forum for Evaluation C (Suggestions for Course) to publicly post and discuss any suggestions for change in this course that you'd like to make.
