Learning Activities 02: Step 1

Complete by end of the 1st week of Part 02:

Select one of the following learning activities to do. Use the forum for Learning Activities for Part 2 in WebCT for Nurs 400A or Nurs 400B to post what you do in the activity.

1. Think of your clinical experience as a student or a practicing nurse. Consider some aspect of your work that you particularly enjoy.
  • Is there anything about that part of your work that puzzles, intrigues, or frustrates you?
  • Can you think of any procedure, practice, or information that would improve the quality of your work in that area? Or improve the care you provide?
Ask yourself these kinds of questions until a general "problem" area emerges. Narrow the problem area until you have a workable research problem statement. Assess the problem in terms of the criteria of significance, researchability, feasibility, and interest to you.
 

2. One proposition of reinforcement theory is that if a behavior is rewarded (reinforced), then the behavior will be repeated (learned). Based on this theory and on your observation of behaviors in health settings or schools of nursing, suggest three nursing research problem statements.

 

3. Select a health care topic you wish and use one or more search tools to find as much online information about the topic as you can. Post your topic and discuss with your classmates what you found and the process (for better or worse) that you used to find it.
