Rick Phelan's Home Page
Rick Phelan is the Coordinator of Staff Development for Curriculum and Technology at the Sonoma County Office of Education. He is also a faculty member in the Schools of Education and Extended Education at Sonoma State University. Rick's primary work areas are in special education, educational technology, information literacy, school leadership and distance learning.Some of the courses Rick teaches at SSU include: Assessment, Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching Adolescents with Special Needs, Computer Uses in Education, Introduction to Multimedia and Web Authoring, Advanced Practices in Educational Technology, and Special Education for Teachers.
Among the courses that Rick teaches at the Sonoma County Office of Education, a partial list includes: Digital Video in the Classroom, Designing Research Projects in the Information Age, Using Technology to Meet Standards, and Robotics with Legos in the Classroom. Rick has a BA in Cultural Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara and an MA in Special Education from Sonoma State University. He has been associated with a number of different organizations, including: The George Lucas Educational Foundation, The California Telemation Project, the California Association of Resource Specialists, and Computer Using Educators, Inc.
Rick enjoys backpacking, mountain biking, and gardening. He lives with his wife and children in Sonoma Valley.
