Chapter 9 offers practical information about teaching social skills and behavior management. Current research and practice on implementing positive behavior supports school-wide and within classroom are discussed. Other topics include: social competence and difficulties including social alientation, suicide, eating disorders, and drug-related problems.

Some Informal Assessment Ideas Suggested in This Chapter:

Observation of social interactions in a variety of settings (i.e. with peers, adults, siblings, parents).

Informal conversations with students

Observation of symptoms that warrant follow-up by a counselor or psychologist or medical doctor.
