He's currently writing a book on what he has labeled "ecological handprints," methods and models for meeting basic human needs while simultaneously lowering our ecological footprint. In support of this book effort, in the last few years he has taught and conducted field research in over 20 countries all over the world as a faculty member on three voyages of the Semester at Sea. Aboard ship he taught courses for the University of Virginia's schools of architecture, education, planning, and engineering. (see related blog entries) In December 2011 he will embark again as a lecturer on the winter Enrichment Voyage up the Amazon.

Over the years he has been a keynote speaker at numerous professional conferences and served as an educational consultant for many worthwhile organizations, including the World Resources Institute, World Television News (now part of Associated Press), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Peace Corps, the President's Council on Sustainable Development, the Energy Foundation, and the California Department of Education. He was the lead consultant and trainer for the first group of Peace Corps volunteers to serve in the former Soviet Union (Baltic nations), a facilitator in the Middle East Peace Process (Amman, Jordan), and a Visiting Scholar at the George Lucas Educational Foundation and Lincoln University (Christchurch, New Zealand).

Dr. Rohwedder was the first faculty Director of the Fairfield Osborn Preserve, and co-founder of the Environmental Technology Center at Sonoma State University. He is currently a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Applied Environmental Education and Communication as well as a member of the Education Caucus of the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development.
