San Francisco's African American Art & Culture Complex located in the Western Addition neighborhood will present the work of photographers Akinbode Akinbiyi (Nigeria) and David Damoison (Martinique/France). The Women's Building in the Mission District hosted artist Myriam Mihindou (France/Gabon) who used her artist's residency as a means to photograph the myriad community of people who use this prominent San Francisco facility. November 8-10, 2007.  FAUSTIN LINYEKULA / LES STUDIOS KABAKA present FESTIVAL OF LIES.  Contemporary dance visionary returns to Yerba Buena with an extraordinary dance theater experience:  part installation, part party, part community event.  In LIES, Linyekula, from the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, evokes “the ruins of his native land.”  Amid a street-fair atmosphere, actors tell stories of daily life and lies of a country misled.  Meanwhile, a band places, audiences eat and drink, dancers create and destry landscapes of urban detritus, and propaganda fills the air  Linyekula forces mutually exclusives together in an evening jam-packed with beauty… and deception.  Come early or late, stay minutes or hours, and immerse yourself in this one-of-a-kind performance event.  Thursday & Friday performances run a standard performance length.  The Festival culminates on Saturday with the full, marathon-length event of approximately six hours, which will feature collaborations with a roster of esteemed local artists.  All events include a buffet hosted by YBCA in association with local African eateries.  Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission St., San Francisco.  http://www.ybca.org for details.
