The American Hospital of Paris Foundation is looking to start a Bay Area chapter of its Junior Committee. The Foundation’s Junior Committee is made up of a diverse group of civic-minded young professionals (aged 20s through 30s) who all want to advance the American Hospital of Paris, both as an important symbol of Franco-American friendship and as an international medical resource. This is done by hosting fundraising events and other activities in the area. A new chapter needs a “Founder” with energy, a strong network of friends, and a desire to support the American Hospital of Paris. See the website at http://www.ahpf.org/juniorcommittee.htm. For expressions of interest or assistance, please contact the Executive Director Gary Jaworski at gary@ahpf.org or by phone 212-605-0372. ENGLISH VERSION: Education Francaise Bay Area is a nonprofit created in April 2009 that provides affordable, quality French classes to French speaking children that do not attend the French private schools. Our after school programs are meant to consolidate bilingualism and help children learn to write in their maternal (sometimes paternal) language. They are held in public schools. We are partially funded by the French government. We are all volunteers except the teachers and assistants. We are launching 11 programs in 10 different towns of the Bay Area in the Fall (including Marin, San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay, and the South Bay). Please go to our website for a complete list of the schools: www.efba.us Besides, we are looking for families in San Jose and Santa Cruz, Pleasanton and Walnut Creek, Mountain View, Foster City and Redwood City to start new programs, once we have the critical mass of children. We also provide French beginner classes to American children but we don't mix both groups so that everybody remains stimulated. Please tell your friends about us and write to me if you are interested in joining a community near you. Cordially, Gabrielle Durana Presdidente d'Education Francaise Bay Area www.efba.us “FRENCH” APARTMENT (in San Francisco) SOUGHT FOR FILM. My name is Frankie Bourne and I am working on an independent community film project shooting right here in the Bay Area during the upcoming month of July. The film is titled IN WORLD WAR, and is a smart and quirky sci-fi feature which tells the story of a debt-ridden beta tester trapped in a virtual reality simulation of the “war on terror”. We are in dire need of a French location to be shot in *for one day only* in the Bay Area. *Description of the Location:* Interior of a French Apartment, filled with French furniture, books, and knick knacks – basically an apartment in the Bay Area that could pass for a French apartment. If you know of any locations, or could put me in contact with anyone who does, you would be doing me a great service. If your organization has an email listserv that you could forward this to so as to get the word out right away, or if you know anyone that could potentially help, our production crew would greatly appreciate it. This is a great opportunity to support Bay Area independent filmmaking. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing back from you. fbourne6@gmail.com SEMINARS ON TRAVEL TO FRANCE, BELGIUM & AFRICA. My name is Jill and I am working with a Bay Area based travel company that specializes in tours for small groups of 8 people to France, Belgium, Italy, Africa and California. I am currently looking for some local travel, professional women or French enthusiast groups that would like to invite Jackie Grandchamps, the owner of the company as a guest speaker to give a travel seminar. During this educational seminar, you will learn: - What an authentic travel experience means specifically to you and how you can have it - What questions you should ask a tour operator or travel agent BEFORE traveling with them - What the French travel etiquette is The presentation lasts about 30 minutes and allows time for questions. Please let me know if we can get on your schedule for one of your upcoming meetings this fall. Let me know if you have any questions about the seminar. We are good friends with a French family living in France. They have a 16-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son who would like to come and live with an American family this summer for a short while. They will pay for all expenses. They are also open to the possibility of doing an exchange. They live in a big house in Saint Quentin, France, a couple of hours outside of Paris. Georges, the father, owns a chain of home furnishing/design stores (Du Bout Du Monde). The mother, Karine, is a doctor. Their daughter, Lorine, is really sweet, but a little shy. She would like to be with a family that has a daughter who is a little younger than she is. Her interests are more pre-teen anyway. She¹s NOT into dating, parties, drinking, etc. The son is athletic and out-going. He likes to have fun. He¹d probably be happy in any nice family where the kids are roughly his age. Just to be clear, the two kids would want to be with different families (not the same one). Any interested families contact me, and I will put you in touch with Georges & Karine. Thanks so much for your help. Chas Halpern > 510-848-1748 office > 510-813-5228 mobile > chas@chashalpern.com> http://chashalpern.com SUMMER EXCHANGE. Charlene has been studying English for 5 years. The family lives in a large house in Torcy, just outside Paris on the suburban (RER) train line to Disneyland Paris. Her father is a teacher and her mother works with the Ministry of Finance. Azica Records, $17.98. Reviewed in the March 29, 2009 SF Chronicle Datebook (pink pages), p.38. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR CHILD SING AND ACT IN FRENCH IN A FRENCH MUSICAL? We are open for Registration until December 1st. Our production will be Le Roi Soleil , the story of the great king Louis the Fourteenth. The songs are wonderful and there is room for astonishing staging. We will perform, as usual, with live musicians. We rehearse a few groups separately and put them together towards the end. The group of " actors/singers" will be rehearsing on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 5:30 pm ( 4th graders and up) . For the a "chorus "group , you may select either Mondays or Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 pm ( kindergarten and up) We also have a group of older singers, rehearsing on Saturday afternoons. Rehearsal period: We will start rehearsals the first week of December. This period ( December) is when we unfold the story and we introduce the songs. We will then begin rehearsals with acting on January 5. There will be 2 performances at the Marin Center Showcase Theater on Saturday May 9, 2009 . The first performance will be at 3 PM and the second will follow at 7:30 PM. This is the day before Mothers' Day. We are aware that some children will have other commitments that will end in December, making it difficult for them to attend our classes. For this reason, we offer a catch-up class every Saturday mornings in December. This is only for the initial storytelling period and there will be no such catch-up after the start of the actual rehearsals in January. Cost: -$80 /per month/ per child in a" chorus", or "Saturday singers", ( for a total of 5 months); -$ 120 /per month/ per "singer/actor",( for a total of 5 months) At the time of registration, we will also collect $20 per family which will cover the cost of the musical CD of Le Roi Soleil. This CD will be a learning tool for your child for the duration of the rehearsals, and they will keep it in their possession. Please note that we will not accept any registration after the first rehearsal. We are looking forward to singing and acting with your children. We think they will be thrilled by the lively music and period costumes.
