GRANT OPPORTUNITY: Résidence at Couvent des Récollets in Paris for American writers and artists: apply before June 15, 2008 The City of Paris and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offer foreign artists a resident's program at the Récollets International Accommodation and Exchange Centre. FRANCE 5 SEEKING SAN FRANCISCO SPECIALISTS! Bonjour, Je travaille à France 5 et prépare une « Echappées Belles », émission hebdomadaire de voyage et de découverte sur San Francisco. L'émission sera tournée par deux reporters du 27 février au 7 mars. L'émission s'articule en trois sujets différents dont un à propos duquel vous pourriez peut-être me conseiller : *« Les gens du tramways »* (ligne Powell Hyde) : Pour ce sujet, nous recherchons : - un machiniste sur la ligne Powell Hyde qui s'occupe de poinçonner etc… (il paraît qu'il y en a un dans chaque voiture) - une personne habitant China Town et qui pourrait nous montrer ce qu'elle aime dans ce quartier en nous le présentant rapidement. Je crois que le Nouvel An chinois sera déjà terminé à leur arrivée… - une personne habitant le quartier de Castro qui pourrait nous embarquer dans l'ambiance spéciale de ce quartier et nous le faire découvrir. -Une jeune personne faisant un sport particulier (comme JT le Kid, skater de San Francisco) cela pourrait être une séquence intéressante. Voilà, ceci est un programme qui peut changer en fonction des informations et conseils que je recevrais. SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR A SUMMER CAMP DELEGATION TO GENEVA, SWITZERLAND. We participate to an all volunteer international program that helps promote friendship and peace all across the world, through summer camps for youths. About 10 countries participate to each camp: each country sends a delegation of 2 boys and 2 girls, accompanied by an adult leader. This summer, a summer camp delegation for 15 year olds is going to Geneva, Switzerland, 7/4/08-7/26/08, and there is no boy applicant so far. Girls are in the process of being selected, but they cannot go if there are no boys! L’ANTICYCLOPEDIE UNIVERSELLE. L'Anticylopédie Universelle vient d'être publiée en France à la fin de l'année 2007. Il s'agit d'une parodie d'encyclopédie, qui, sur un ton très sérieux, aborde tous les sujets : les dinosaures, la politique, l'écologie, le cinéma, etc. On y trouve par exemple des conseils pour trouver à manger quand on est au Paradis, ou des trucs pour bien se préparer à la fin du monde. LOCAL AUTHOR LEONART PITT LEADS WALKING TOURS IN PARIS… While in Paris I will be leading my walking tours with small groups of 8 or 9 passionate Parisophiles. The most popular walk seems to be Paris and Chocolate. It's a great mix of intensely interesting history along with some delightful treats for the palate we pick up along the way at three artisanal chocolatiers. INVITATION TO SUPPORT THE HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDE MEMORIAL GROVE PROJECT at Sonoma State University. The Center for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide and the Alliance for the Study of the Holocaust have recently unveiled plans for a memorial by the lake on the east side of the Sonoma State campus to honor those lost in atrocities throughout the world (from the Armenian Genocide to the WWII Holocaust to the Rwandan conflict to current-day Sudan). The Grove will be transformed by an original sculpture created by Associate Professor of Sculpture JANN NUNN. The sculpture’s design consists of two 40-foot-long railroad tracks embedded into the lawn; their converging steel lines will emerge from a gentle slope of ground and intersect a pedestrian footpath. They will end with light from an internally illuminated glass column that stands 10 feet tall representing hope for the future with the goal that through educational efforts, genocide will no longer be part of the landscape. Rows of ivory colored memoral bricks will be placed in the position of railroad ties relative to the steel tracks. Each brick will be laser-inscribed with names and memorial expressions. Members of the community are encouraged to participate in this lasting memorial by purchasing a brick for installation in the sculpture; larger monetary donations to offset the costs involved in the production of the entire sculpture would also be most welcome. Two sizes of bricks will be sold to the public: 4X8 inch for $100, and 8X8 inch for $250.
