Information:
This clinical
course is designed to facilitate an introductory experience with
well and ill children in a variety of settings. In the community
settings (clinics, schools) students are paired with a practicing
nurse to focus on growth and development, special needs, and health
screenings. In the hospital settings students participate with faculty
and staff to provide nursing care to children of all ages. Attendance
at all clinical assignments, completion of all written assignments,
completion of all on-line journal and discussion assignments, and
completion of evaluation materials is required. All policies of
the Department of Nursing Undergraduate
Handbook are observed.
Assignments:
The Community
experience is highly varied and dependent upon an aggressive
learner to access knowledge of professional nursing.
Requirements:
45 hours of clinical practice
1. Actively
attend weekly clinical practice opportunities (20 hours)
A. Develop
and implement a health teaching event to a group of children.
B. Participate
in health screening assessments
C. Participate
in journal style weekly discussion with classmates on WebCT with
a focus the Professional Values, Core Competencies, Core Knowledge
and Role Development criteria.
2. Complete
Community Post-Conference Assignments ( 20 hours )
3. Attend five
hours of one or more Professional Learning Activity(ies) (5 hours)
The
Hospital experience occurs at
UCSF.
Requirements:
45 hours
1. Actively
attend clinical practice opportunities (40 hours).
2. Complete
clinical data record and care plan assignments associated with direct
patient care (5 hours).
Grading
The
pediatric experience in N345 includes both the community and hospital
rotations. Your grades for the following assignments will be combined
to contribute 50% to your final N345 grade.

- Hospital (25%) For students who achieve 74% or greater on the
Clinical Evaluation Form will be added to the pediatric N345 grade.

- Community (25%): For students who achieve 74% or greater the percentage
