Guidelines for Discussion Group Grading Option

The total value of participation in the Discussion Group Option will be 80% of the final grade. (The midterm and final will account for the other 20%.)

Criteria should be specified for each of the following factors, and the weight (%) of each factor should be agreed on by the group:

Attendance in the Friday class and in the discussion group. (No more than 3 unexcused absences may be permitted in either the class or the group for credit in this category.)

Quantity and quality of participation in the discussion group. How will this be evaluated? What will be the role of self-evaluation, of evaluation by the group facilitator, and by other group members?

Ten satisfactory reaction papers will be required for full credit in this category. However, the group should address the question of how these papers will be used in the group process, how and by whom they well be evaluated as “satisfactory,” and the weight this category will have in determining overall Discussion Group Option grade.
