• Understand the historical significance of Sigmund Freud and the
• basic concepts of Freudian psychoanalysis.
• Identify the major historical figures in the orthodox and derivative psychoanalytic traditions.
• Understand the role of the idea of the unconscious mind in the development of 20th century thought.
• Understand the role of the concept of the acting subject (ego) in the development of 20th century thought.
