A and A-.

Writing is clean and sophisticated with flashes of originality.

Student understands and uses the concepts of the field with Flexibility,
breadth, depth, and insight. ( I learn from the students' work ). Mastery
of detail from assigned readings and outside sources, and evidence of scholarly
pursuit.

Very high number of correct responses.

Student demonstrates high motivation, takes initiative in discussion and
is involved in class process.

Work would justify recommendation to a competitive doctoral program.

Shows evidence of reflection and depth of perspective.
B+, B, and B-
-
Writing demonstrated clarity and precision, with less depth, breadth, and
originality than "A" above.

Shows understanding and use of concepts correctly and effectively.
-
Demonstrates mastery of detail from assigned reading.
-
High number of correct responses.

Evidence of substantial motivation and hard work.
-
Creative participation in class discussions.

Work would be appropriate for recommendation to a terminal MA ( Example:
SSU Counseling program)
C+, C, C-

Writing shows obvious struggle with ideas.

Completion of reading assignments.

Demonstrated grasp of most of the important concepts at a level of definition,
but difficulty using them effectively as above.

Completion of all or most work on time, in a manner which measures up to
acceptable academic standards.

Attends class regularly and appears to be paying attention.

Acceptable number of correct responses.

Responds appropriately to questions with some understanding of material.

Work indicates an ability to contribute to society in a productive way
treating other persons with empathy and respect.

C- is appropriate for able students who show correct minimal compliance
with the letter of class requirements and whose work shows no extra investment
of effort beyond that minimal level.
D+, D, D-

Poor or incomplete written work.

Understand concepts at a minimal level.

Minimal engagement with the material, low demonstrated motivation.

Attendance below acceptable level.

Would not recommend students for most jobs.

Failure to show demonstrate the most minimal grasp of the course material.

Demonstrated disinterest in academic work.

Number of correct responses is no greater than would be expected by chance.

Attendance is worse than unacceptable.
