Vineyard Workers Services Mission Statement
In recognition of the importance of agricultural workers as part
of our community, Vineyard Workers Services is dedicated to providing
valley farmworkers with suitable housing and assistance in meeting
their related human needs.
Vineyard Workers Services
Vineyard Workers Services (VWS) is a community-based organization
committed to the creation of sufficient, decent housing for
farmworkers and their families in the Sonoma Valley. VWS was founded
in 1992 in response to a crisis of homelessness among the local
farmworkers. VWS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and has a
15-member Board of Directors that meets regularly.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Financial donations are always needed and appreciated. However,
the scope of VWS services and our voluntary nature also create the
need for many additional contributions, such as:
EXPERTISE:
- -Housing development skills: Acquisition & site
development, general contracting, construction
- -Office skills (bilingual receptionist, filing &
secretarial, etc.)
- -Health care: medical and dental
- -Food preparation. distribution
- -Assistance with donated clothing & bedding
MATERIALS:
- -Building and infrastructure materials
- -Office & library supplies
- -Medical supplies
- -Clothing & bedding (in good condition)
- -Kitchen supplies & food

Since 1992, VWS has:
- -Delivered meals, health care services, English language
classes, clothing, and bedding, & emergency shelter to
farmworkers during the harvest season through its La Casa de Is
Amistad program;
- -Established a Farmworker Resource Center offering year-round
help with housing provision, health care access, community
outreach and peer counseling training, "Platica" events, and other
opportunities for agricultural workers to move toward
self-determination;
- -Established a Farmworker Advisor Committee to lend direction
to the agency's activities;
- -Obtained government, foundation, and private funding for
farmworker housing development, the Resource Center, & La Casa
de la Amistad;
- -Ongoing site searches for development of farmworker housing
units that can accommodate people during the peak seasons &
permanent housing for farmworker families;
- -Established community linkages with neighborhood groups and
the business, religious, and nonprofit communities.
Current VWS activities include:
- -Farmworker Resource Center programs and events;
- -La Casa de la Amistad program;
- -Cultural exchange events including the annual Mexican
Independence Day celebration;
- -Annual scholarship award;
- -Ongoing site identification and acquisition; and
- -Community and volunteer outreach.
