10. Do the following base eight problems.

 

 

a) First, add the ones. From the table, 5 + 7 = 14, and 14 + 5 = 21. Put the 1 in the one's place and carry the 2 eights to the top of the next column.

 

 

Next add the eights. 6 + 1 = 7 with no need to carry, but when you add the 2 eights that were carried from adding the ones, we get, from the table, 2 + 7 = 11. Put one 1 in the eight's place in the answer, and carry the other to the top of the next column.

 

 

Finally we add the numbers in the next column which is the sixty-four's column. 3 + 4 = 7 without even having to carry. From the table, 7 + 2 = 11. When we add the 1 that was carried from the last step, 11 + 2 = 12.
