1. Subtract
Since we are subtracting fractions, we need to find common
denominators. First factor both denominators.
Fill in the missing factors.
Now that we have common denominators, we need only
subtract the numerators. Subtracting polynomials amounts to
removing parentheses and combining like terms.
At this point, always check to see if the fraction can be
reduced. In this case, there is a factor of 2 in both of the terms on
top.
We find that there is a factor of 2x + 3 in both the top and
bottom that we can cancel out
leaving us with
