SSU Web Standards - Accessibility Exemption Procedure
Departments may apply for an exemption from SSU's accessibility requirements. Sites with an exemption must meet the rest of SSU Web Standards Minimum Requirements.
- Application for exemption must be sent to the Web Advisory Committee - send email to barbara.moore@sonoma.edu and dan.condron@sonoma.edu. Include the following:
- Provide a reason or explanation – why is the exemption needed? Why the site can't meet 508 standards?
- Provide a plan for providing an equally effective alternate (EEA) site that meets accessibility requirements.
- Provide a plan for moving the primary site towards compliance.
- The Web Advisory Committee will review and approve or deny the application.
- If approved:
- The Web Advisory Committee will follow up with the requesting department within a specified short timeframe to confirm the availability of the EEA site.
- The Web Advisory Committee will follow up with the requesting department annually to check on progress towards an accessible primary site (one that does not require an exemption).
- If denied:
- The requesting department must go through site remediation to make the site accessible.
- If approved:
- The Web Advisory Committee will document the exemption process for each request (exemption requests, EEA sites, primary site progress checks, and remediation checks).
