SSU Website Design Page Types
The SSU templates include several different page layouts. They can be used as is without making further changes to HTML or CSS.
Some SSU departments may have a need to customize parts of the design, or may wish to combine design elements from two or more different page types. Please make an appointment with the Web Office to discuss your custom design needs.
Landing
This page type is intended for School homepages. It may also be used for Division homepages, but is not required. Departments should not use this page type. The landing page features a very large background image in the content area, a tagline, and space for a welcome message, news, starting links, embeded videos or other content. The white background in the content area is semi-transparent, allowing visitors to see through to the background image.

Banner
This page type is intended for a department or program homepages. A large banner image space is provided to help you to identify your department. The height of the banner image can be adjusted. The content area on the bottom half of the page can be modified to include multiple columns, or can be left as is with left sidebar navigation and wide content area.

Slideshow
This page type is intended for a department or program homepage. A large banner slideshow space is provided to help you to identify your department, and rotate images related to your programs, services or other message. The height of the slideshow area can be adjusted. The content area on the bottom half of the page can be modified to include multiple columns, or can be left as is with left sidebar navigation and wide content area.

Emblem
This page type can be used as a lightweight department homepage or a branded second-level page.The left sidebar starts with a medium-sized image representing your department or program, followed by the department's persistant navigation.The content area starts right below the SSU banner and audience link bar.

Content
This page type is intended for a second-level content page. The left sidebar contains the department's persistant navigation.

Audience
This page type is used for the University's Audience pages. It can also be used for any page that functions as a navigational jumping-off point. The Audience page consists of even-numbered blocks, each containing a heading, decorative image and short list of relevant links. On the left side of the page is space for a medium-sized image, message, or even standard navigation list.

Blank
This page type is intended for use when your content is wide, or if left navigation isn't appropriate for the content of the page. The Blank template includes the standard SSU top banner and footer. Everything in between is available for content.

Other Common Uses
Faculty Profile
Most academic department sites should include a list of Faculty that links to individual Faculty Profile pages. Usually, profiles use the Content Page layout, but can use the Blank Page layout.

Custom Page Layouts
If none of the above page types meets a need your site has, the Web Office can combine elements and styles from the other page types or develop something new. New designs must be approved by the Web Team and Web Advisory Committee.
University Homepage - Not For Use On Other Pages
The University Homepage is a special page. Other pages should not be made to look like the University homepage. Most of the styles are available for use on other pages, but the combination of all or most of these elements should not be duplicated.
- Featured Slideshow on the top half of the page, with story headings on the left, story details on the right, and transition effects between stories.
- Navigation sidebars on both left and right sides of the page below a slideshow.
- Tabbed content area between left and right navigation sidebars,
- News stories with images on the left, and story exerpts on the right.
- Styles for RSS and More News links
- Social Media icon links in right sidebar.
- Promotional images in left and right sidebar.
- Mini-banners across the bottom of the content area.
