    Women interested in joining a national Panhellenic sorority should attend one of the information nights hosted by the SSU Panhellenic Council on August 27, 28, 29, and 30th at 7pm in the Cooperage. Attendees will be presented with information about the six Panhellenic sororities at SSU (Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Gamma Phi Beta, and Phi Sigma Sigma) and have an opportunity to meet many women involved in these organizations. You will also receive information about the Formal Recruitment process, which will take place September 6-10. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to have a question/answer session about recruitment/membership with active sorority members, and the opportunity to register for recruitment.   • Tutorial Center Open House 11:30-1pm in 1061 Salazar
    We are excited to announce that the Tutorial Center has moved from its cramped quarters in the Learning Center office area to its own space in the first floor corner of Salazar Hall (1061). The Tutorial Center offers one-on-one and small group peer tutoring in 40 plus subjects, serving 400 to 500 students in the Center each semester. The program also offers supplemental instruction for lower division science courses in collaboration with the School of Science and Technology. Tutoring is a free service for SSU students and is funded by the Associated Students, Inc. Come by and check out the new space and tutoring schedule at our Open House.

Make sure that your president and treasurer at tends a club chartering meeting. This is a requirement to be officially recognized by SSU. You will get lots of informat ion about the process, what the benefits are, and what you need to do. The deadline for Fall Chartering is Friday, September 14, 2012.

    • Melba Pat tillo Beals: Warriors Don’t Cry: Thursday September 27 at 7PM Cooperage-FREE
      Melba Pat tillo Beals is a journalist and member of the Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who were the first to integrate Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. Beals' book Warriors Don't Cry chronicles the events of 1957 during the Little Rock crisis, based partly on diaries she kept during that period. She also wrote White is a Stat e of Mind, which begins where Warriors left off. In 1958, the NAACP awarded the Spingarn Medal to Beals and to the other members of the Little Rock Nine, together with civil rights leader Daisy Bat es, who had advised the group during their struggles at Central High. In 1999, she and the rest of the Nine were awarded the highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal. Only three hundred others have received this.       • Sunrise Choral Concert at 7 a.m.
        A Choral Consecrat ion! Wat ch the sunrise through the windows of Weill Hall while marveling in the vocal splendor of the SSU Chamber Singers and Symphonic Chorus along with Cantiamo, the Santa Rosa Children's Chorus and two regional high school choruses, as well as SSU faculty and Santa Rosa Symphony musicians. Jenny Bent conducts with Carol Menke, Jenni Samuelson and Christopher Fritzsche soloists. GMC Artistic Director Jeff Langley has written music especially for this occasion with text by Amanda McTigue.

        Ensembles of the music department will grace the halls and grounds before the Santa Rosa Symphony’s 2 p.m. concert. Beginning with a fanfare from the SSU Brass Ensemble, enjoy classical and jazz music taking place in outdoor venues surrounding Weill Hall.
