Donors Continue to Support SSU's Programs

The University Development Division is pleased to report that over the past 10 fiscal years $31.9 million has been raised to support academic programs and students.

To achieve its mission, Sonoma State University recognizes that its first obligation is to develop and maintain excellent programs of undergraduate instruction grounded in the liberal arts and sciences.

“Our development officers work diligently with faculty, staff and administrators to match the interests of our potential donors to the excellent programs Sonoma State has to offer. Once they learn about the life-altering impact the educational system has on students, those donors want to help in whatever way they can,” says Erik Greeny, Interim Vice President for University Development. We have an incredibly generous community.

Looking back to 2002-2003 fundraising breaks down as follows:

*Academics: $14,805,991 (e.g. Baseball Field Project, F. Korbel & Brothers, Inc. Professorship, Sustain our State Park Access Project, Galbreath Preserve)

*Scholarships: $2,687,095 (e.g. YES WE CAN Scholarships, Vadasz Family Scholarships supporting music students, Charles John Eidem Student Assistantship Endowment supporting Science & Technology Computer Science students)

*Endowment: $14,424,790 (e.g. Art and Elizabeth Condiotti Endowed Scholarships, Moore-Amaral Endowment for Academic Initiatives, Bernard Osher Junior College Transfer Endowment)

While raising funding for academics, a concurrent effort has been made to raise funding for the Green Music Center which nets $33,667,064 over the past 10 fiscal years.

“These numbers do not include bequest intentions that have not been realized. Bequests are where people make commitments in their estate plans to support the university. The university has recently benefited from several large gifts that were made this way. Future bequest commitments include $7,595,927 designated for academics and $4,028,003 designated for GMC (primarily operations),” says Greeny.
