CalPERS 2013 Retirement Planning Fairs

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is hosting Retirement Planning Fairs this summer to help employees plan for a more financially secure retirement. The fairs will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center on August 23 and 24, and at The Westin Long Beach on September 13 and 14.

All CalPERS members from State, local government, special districts, public schools, community colleges, and California State University campuses are encouraged to attend. The CalPERS fairs provide valuable retirement planning information for members that are new to the workforce, mid-career or nearing retirement.

Each fair offers more than a dozen information tables on CalPERS related topics such as retirement benefits, service credit, health benefits, long-term care and supplemental income plans. In addition, members may speak to representatives from Social Security, CalPERS health plan providers, the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS), ScholarShare - California's 529 College Savings Plan and public retiree organizations. The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) who administers the Dental, Vision and Savings Plus programs for State employees will also have representatives on-site.

The CalPERS fairs will offer various informative breakout sessions with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be five specific topics which will be repeated throughout each day such as: Benefit Basics, Health into Retirement, The Service Credit Factor, Social Security and Savings Plus - Putting Your Deferred Compensation to Work for You.

New this year, CalPERS will webcast four of our informative breakout sessions, transmitted live from the fair, on August 23. Those who are unable to attend the fairs, can register for these live webcast sessions which will also be recorded for future viewing on our website. The sessions will provide information on their CalPERS benefits; transitioning health benefits into retirement; service credit purchase options, and the importance of additional personal savings to augment their CalPERS pension.
