In this talk, Keegan explores the infamous “red pill” of The Matrix franchise as a crucial signifier in the history of transgender cultural production. Deploying what Keegan describes as a “redpill” aesthetics, the trilogy instructs popular audiences in how to “sense transgender.” Dr. Keegan, author of Lana and Lilly Wachowski: Sensing Transgender (University of Illinois Press, 2018), is an assistant professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Liberal Studies at Grand Valley State University and a cultural theorist of transgender/queer media and literature.  The Queer Studies Lecture Series is made possible thanks to the Women’s and Gender Studies Department, Queer Studies Minor, SSU Instructionally Related Activities Program, Campus Life, and the HUB.
