Welcome to the Master of Arts in Counseling program at SSU!

Our Counseling program emphasizes the role of human relationships to heal and empower. We seek to educate a community of ethical, self-aware and socially engaged counselors with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to competently promote the health and development of diverse individuals, couples, families, and communities.

Our 60-unit graduate program offers two professional specializations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (with eventual licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist and/or as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) or School Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

Please explore our page for more information about our department's mission, programs, faculty and more!

How to Apply

Consider attending one of our information meetings. Faculty members will be present to give you further information about our program and to answer any questions you may have.

Due to the volume of requests for information we receive, we are only able to respond to inquiries related specifically to our programs. At this time, we are unable to field general inquiries regarding licensure and credentialing in California. Thank you for your understanding.

We will begin accepting applications for fall 2024 on October 1, 2023 via Cal State Apply.

The deadline to submit an application for fall 2024 MA-Counseling Program via Cal State Apply is Monday, December 11, 2023. The deadline is for all of the materials, including letters of recommendation.
