We offer 24/7 immediate counseling support! Call us anytime at (707) 664-2153 for support. You can also call to leave a non-urgent message with any questions you may have about CAPS services.

If you are in crisis and need to speak to a counselor immediately, please come to CAPS during front office hours or call (707) 664-2153.  After hours, you may call us and follow prompts to be connected to a counselor. We have a crisis counselor available to you 24/7. If you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else, please immediately call 911 or go to your local emergency room.

Welcome to Counseling & Psychological Services at Sonoma State University! Our purpose is to support student mental health and wellbeing. We offer short-term individual and group counseling, workshops, crisis intervention services, consultation, referral, training, and outreach to accomplish this. All currently enrolled students who pay the mental health fee (a mandatory campus fee paid at registration) are eligible for our services. There are no additional charges for our services.

All are welcome here. We strive to acknowledge, accept, and support the perspectives of a diverse campus population. This includes, but is not limited to, race/ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, ability, religious/spiritual affiliation, socio-economic status, and immigration status.

Confidentiality is an essential part of all counseling relationships. The CAPS staff adhere to our profession's ethical standards and state and federal laws relating to confidentiality. Therefore, you can be assured everything you say to your counselor is kept within CAPS unless you give us written permission to release information to a third party. There are some instances where we are legally compelled to break confidentiality. These include situations in which your counselor determines that you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or others; child, elder, or dependent adult abuse is suspected (note that child abuse includes intentional viewing of child pornography); and certain rare legal circumstances. Basic information about your attendance at CAPS may have to be disclosed as related to public health mandates. Your counselor will discuss these exceptions with you at your first meeting.

Join the CAPS Mental Health Ambassadors for an afternoon of self-care including FREE frozen yogurt from Swirl Time, a guided painting activity (supplies provided), spend time with some therapy dogs, and learn about campus resources available to support you! Please join us on in the Darwin/Stevenson Plaza on Tuesday, April 23 from 1 PM-3 PM.

Let's Talk at the HUB with Dr. Isa Avila Saiter!

Let's Talk is a brief, informal group and one-on-one consultation CAPS counselor Dr. Isa Availa Saiter will be holding at the HUB. SSU students will be able to access support, gain perspective, explore resources, and discuss how counseling might be helpful. These meetings focus on skill-building, resiliency, and problem solving. Tuesdays: 4/9, 4/23, and 5/7 from 2-4 pm. Drop in for the group chat 2-2:15 pm. For an individual 20-minunte session during 2:15-3:50 pm, sign up here!
