Things 2 Know @ FAO
Veterans Services Relocation and Contact Information
Effective April 4, 2016 the Veterans Affairs office will be renamed Veterans Services and reception for the office will relocate to Salazar 1000 at the Financial Aid counter area. The reorganization and relocation is due to the retirement of current Veterans Affairs Director, Peter Neville who is leaving Sonoma State after many years of dedicated service. The Veterans Coordinator and School Certifying Official will be Julia Ibanez. Julia has held a variety of responsibilities in the SSU Financial Aid Office since 2000, most recently as coordinator of federal and state programs and disbursement and reconciliation processing.
Effective April 4, the Veterans Services Office reception hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drop-in office hours are held on Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
File Review Processing Timeline for Fall 2016 Verification
We have begun reviewing files for students newly admitted to and continuing at SSU for Fall 2016 who submitted all of their To Do List items. If you see the “Review in process” item in your To Do List, your verification documents will be reviewed within 15 business days. The review may result in additional To Do List items being assigned to you. If this happens, you will receive an email notification and you will see the items in your To Do List.
Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 To Do List Notifications and Financial Aid Award Offer Timeline
We are currently loading the results of the 16-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and 16-17 California Dream Application into our system.
Students with To Do List items will receive an email notification and you will see the items in MySSU. Some students will not have any To Do List items assigned, in which case we will send you an application acknowledgement email at that time.
Students newly admitted to programs that are eligible for financial aid will begin receiving 2016-2017 financial aid award offers in April. Continuing SSU students will begin receiving notification of their award offer in mid-June, after Spring 2016 grades have been posted.
Avoid FAFSA Scams
Filing the FAFSA is FREE. There are companies that may solicit payment from you to file the FAFSA on your behalf, but in most cases this is a waste of your money. If you are asked to give a credit card number or make any kind of payment to complete or file the FAFSA, beware. More information on filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid can be found in our How to Apply section of our website.
