400 Singers to Converge at Sonoma State Choral Festival
Now in its twelfth year, the Sonoma State Choral Festival on November 15 will bring together singers from Northern California for a day of clinics, rehearsals and performances in Weill Hall. Hosted by Choral Activities Director Jenny Bent, Lori Marie Rios, associate professor of music at College of the Canyons will be guest adjudicator. The closing concert will reprise outstanding choirs with a featured appearance by the SSU Chamber Singers, Jenny Bent, conductor.
Lori Marie Rios is a highly accomplished conductor, soloist, educator and voice teacher. She currently serves as associate professor of music at College of the Canyons, Valencia, where she conducts two choirs and teaches voice. Prior to her appointment at COC, she directed the choral program at La Canada High School.
Her choirs have appeared at the American Choral Directors Association Regional Convention in Las Vegas and in 2007 were selected to appear at the ACDA National Convention in Miami. The choirs at La Canada also performed at the California Music Educators Conference. Ms. Rios teaches in the summer graduate program at California State University, Los Angeles, where she teaches voice and graduate level conducting. She is on the choral-vocal faculty of the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program where she serves as assistant director. Ms. Rios has served as vocal director for productions of Cabaret and South Pacific and as music Director for Grease, Anything Goes, and Bat Boy.
Lori Marie has performed such major works as Bach’s B Minor Mass, the Brahms Requiem, and has been a soloist for Carmina Burana, Bach’s Magnificat, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and the Vaughan Williams Mass in G Minor. Ms. Rios has performed as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes and Laurie in Oklahoma! She made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in 2006 as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem.
Lori Marie serves on the California ACDA board and on the Regional and National Steering Committees for that association. She holds a Master of Music degree in Conducting and Vocal Performance from University of Nevada, Reno, and a Bachelor of Music in Choral Studies.
