Advising

As philosophy majors and minors progress through the undergraduate degree program, they should attend carefully to the degree requirements and the departmental course offerings. They should meet regularly with the department faculty members for advising. It is especially important to make an advising appointment before registering for courses. Check the office hours for faculty availability.

Students are welcome to contact any of the philosophy professors to schedule an appointment for advising. Students should complete the following tasks before their advising session, and they should make sure to bring the paperwork to their appointment.

  1. Print out a copy of your Degree Progress Report from PeopleSoft.
  2. Fill out the appropriate GE Pattern worksheet. Students attending SSU beginning in their freshman year complete the 51 unit GE pattern sheet; transfer students (with 30 transfer units) complete the 48 unit GE pattern sheet.
  3. Consult the Philosophy Major Degree Requirements.
