Application to the Psychology Major

Requirements for current Sonoma State University students (In-house transfer):

Applications are available the first month of each semester in the Psychology Department office, Stevenson 3092. Fall 2014 applications available August 19th, deadline September 19th.

Have a cummulative grade point average of 3.0.
Complete PSY 250 (Introduction to Psychology) or equivalent with a grade of Cor better.
Recommend completion MATH 165 Statistics (GE B4)
Complete application.

After you complete and submit an application to declare Psychology as your major, your application will be reviewed by a faculty committee and the Department Chair.

Requirements for High School students (First-time Freshman):

Have a cummulative 3.0 GPA for high school college preparation courses (A-G courses).
Indicate on your Sonoma State application form that you would like Psychology as your major.

Requirements for Community college, transfer students or others:

Have a cummulative CSU transferable GPA of 3.0.
Complete 60 CSU transferable units (30 units must be General Education (GE) units).
Complete GE Area A1 Oral communication (Speech), A3 Critical Thinking and B4 Math completed with a C or better (Introduction to Statistics is the recommended GE math course.)
Complete GE Area A2 Written Communication (English Composition) completed with a B or better.
Complete PSY 250 (Introduction of Psychology) or equivalent with a C or better.
Recommend completion of PSY 280 (Psychological Research Methods) or equivalent with C or better.
Indicate on your Sonoma State application form that you would like Psychology as your major.
