Who is Eligible to Walk in Ceremony
Students who graduated in December 2013 and have applied for graduation in May 2014 and August 2014.
This is a must attend event for graduates. The SSU Bookstore will hold its annual Grad Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Student Center, Ballroom D February 18-19. It is highly recommended that all graduates attend as vendors will be available to answer questions and assist graduates with their purchasing needs.
Photographers will take cap and gown (loaned for the shoot) photos of graduating students at the Grad Fair. There is no sitting fee and no obligation to purchase. Proofs will be emailed to students within 48 hours of the sitting.
Graduate Arrival Time & Location
Graduates should report to the processional line-up on the north side of Stevenson Hall. Look for your school banner. Arrive one hour prior to your ceremony time.
Your name will be called in the order you line up that day. Fill out the name card given to you in line. Your name will then be read from that card when you cross the platform and receive your diploma case. This card also serves to identify you for the campus photographers.
Caps and Gowns
The academic regalia to be worn for Commencement is the traditional black cap and gown. Regalia can be ordered at the bookstore or directly through HerffJones. Order yours early to ensure correct size.
We encourage family and friends to watch the live webcast of the ceremonies from the comfort of home by visiting Sonoma.edu on May 10 and clicking on the live webcast link.
General seating is limited to four guests per graduate. Seating is provided with chairs and bleachers on the Commencement Lawn. Due to having 1,000 graduates per ceremony, seating for family members is extremely limited.
Permits are not required on Commencement day. Guests with a valid disable placard can park in Lot G, the closest lot to the Commencement site. Additionally, advance reservations for a special “assigned seating” area for the disabled or limited mobility guest plus one helper can be requested. The assigned seating area is a section of metal folding chairs on the lawn.
