How SSU saved academic programs: Higher Ed Dive interview with Interim Provost Stacey Bosick
Higher Ed Dive, a leading online source for college and university news, featured Sonoma State University on August 10, 2026. Reporter Ben Unglesbee interviewed Interim Provost Stacey Bosick to learn how SSU preserved many of the academic programs it had initially announced as discontinued In January 2025 as part of reductions needed to address a $24-million budget deficit.
Bosick, who’s leading the academic side of what President Michael E. Spagna has described as a “reimagining” of the university, said seven of 19 previously suspended programs have come back – or are coming back – in some form.
“We started having conversations with faculty about where there might be a way to bring a program back — is there a way to do it in a cost-effective way that doesn’t undermine the budget?”
