SSU athletics director: Hiring coaches is early priority
Joan McDermott, Sonoma State’s interim director of athletics, outlined how the university will launch 10 NCAA Division II sports programs starting in fall 2027 during an interview with reporter Gus Morris of The Press Democrat. After a two-year absence, the Seawolves will once again compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, and soccer, as well as women’s softball and volleyball.
“It is a challenge, but this is a great place, and I think we’re going to have some coaches who are very excited to be here and recruit some talented athletes,” she told The Press Democrat. “It’s going to take work, of course, but we’re looking for people who are really enthusiastic and really believe in this place and believe in themselves.”
