Annual SSU Math Festival

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites you to our annual Math Festival, a celebration of its students, faculty, and staff.
This event consists of:
- A Student Gallery of Scholarly Works from 11am - 1 pm in the Darwin Lobby;
- A special M*A*T*H Colloquium presentation by Benjamin-Blum Smith from Johns Hopkins University titled "Mathematics & Democracy: A Manifesto" from 4 pm - 5 pm in Darwin 103 or over Zoom.
Speaker's abstract: The Connection Between Mathematics And Democracy May Surprise Many, But It Has Deep Roots In Voting And Apportionment Theory—and Has Expanded Dramatically In Recent Years. This Talk Surveys The Many Ways Mathematics Intersects With Democratic Society, From Elections, Voting Rights, And Redistricting To Civic Infrastructure, Civil Rights Data, And Mathematics Education For Citizenship.
