As a fully invested partner in music education, the music department hosts numerous high school music festivals each year, and music faculty members are in demand as conductors, clinicians and performers.



High School Choral clinic

· Nov. 7, 2014 – Director of Choral Activities Jenny Bent will host the 13th Annual High School Choral Festival. Four hundred high school choristers from Sonoma and Marin counties perform before guest adjudicators. The guest clinician will be Dr. Jonathan Talberg, Director of Choral, Vocal, and Opera Studies and Associate Director of the CSU Long Beach Conservatory.

The CMEA North Region Choral Festival will take place at Sonoma State on Friday and Saturday, April 3rd & 4th, 2015.


Jazz Day trumpet session with Dave Len Scott

· Oct. 17, 2014 - Jazz Studies director Doug Leibinger will host the 3nd annual Sonoma State Jazz Day on Friday, October 17. Invited high school jazz players from throughout the North Bay will perform for and interact with members of the SSU Jazz faculty in Weill Hall. Family and friends are welcome to stay and listen. The day closes with a 7:30 p.m. performance by the Faculty Jazz Ensemble co-led by Doug Leibinger and George Marsh. Proceeds go to the Mel Graves Jazz Fund.

The CMEA North Region Jazz Festival will take place at Sonoma State on Friday, January 30, 2015.

Wind Band

Sonoma Invitational rehearsal with trombonist Kyle Covington

· March 13-14, 2015 – The 3rd annual Sonoma Invitational Wind Band Festival is slated for Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14, 2015. Guest soloist/ adjudicator will be announced. The festival is hosted by Director of Bands and Music Education, Andy Collinsworth.


The CMEA North Region Solo & Ensemble Festival will take place at Sonoma State on Saturday, March 7, 2015.
