Project Freeland

Associated Students Productions is proud to bring Ariel Luckey's inspiring theatrical production of his one-man play "Project Freeland." Luckey's hip-hop theatre experience will be performed on Thursday, November 5th at 7:30 PM in Warren Auditorium. This event is free to all.

"Project Freeland" (commonly referred to simply as "Free Land") is a dynamic hip hop theater solo show written and performed by Ariel Luckey, directed by Margo Hall and scored by Ryan Luckey. The audience follows a young white man's search for his roots as it takes him from the streets of Oakland to the prairies of Wyoming on an unforgettable journey into the heart of American history. Free Land weaves spoken word poetry, acting, dance and hip hop music into a compelling performance that challenges us to take an unflinching look at the truth buried in the soil of our country.

Ariel Luckey has been named one of UTNE Reader's 50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World as a performance activist and has received praise from a diverse collection of organizations. The White Anti-Racist Community Action Network describes Luckey as "a man on message" and his production as "an art with mission." Free Land is a play that appeals to audiences of all races and backgrounds. "I feel like my story [in Free Land] is as much about white people as about Native Americans. It's about what white folks have done. . . . As I tap into my family history and ask what does this mean? I'm telling a piece of my own story as well." To see video clips and learn more about Luckey's phenomenal story, you can find them at www.freelandproject.com under "Media."
