Eligibility & Options

I. Eligible Users of Campus Recreation Facilities
1. Student
Any currently enrolled student at Sonoma State University with a valid ID card is allowed into the facility.
2. Extended Education Students
Any student currently enrolled in the Extended Education program at SSU can purchase a membership pass to facilities. Verifying ID in the form of a library card, issued upon request at the Extended Education Office, or proof of payment for classes being taken in current semester, along with picture ID must be presented to purchase a membership.
3. Faculty/ Staff
Any current employee of Sonoma State with verifying ID can purchase a membership pass to facilities. Acceptable methods of verification are: A current SSU ID or any of following accompanied by a picture ID: a pay stub, a current SSU library card, contract, or letter of appointment.
4. Alumni
Any person with a current, valid SSU alumni membership card can purchase a membership pass to the facilities. Current alumni membership card and a picture ID must be presented to purchase a Recreation Center membership or pass.

*** However, because fees were collected a full year before the Rec Center opens, those students who pay the 2002-2003 fees but graduate before the Center opens will be granted a one-year free alumni membership to the Rec Center, beginning with the first year of opening. Eligibility allows alumni who have graduated within December 2002 through December of 2004 to receive a free year of membership. Alumni participants have ten years to claim their free membership, making it redeemable by August, 2014. Free alumni memberships may only be initiated at the beginning of a semester, and they must be used in three consecutive semesters, including Fall, Spring, and Summer.

5. Emeritus/ Retiree
Any former SSU employee having been honored with Emeritus status or officially designated as a retired employee can buy a pass to the Recreation Center.
Verifying identification in the form of a retiree’s card, issued upon request by the Human Services department, along with a picture ID, must be presented to obtain a membership.
*Emeritus/retirees receive membership at no cost.

II. Family/ Sponsored Individual Memberships
**During the 2003-2004 academic year, family and sponsored individual memberships will be sold only on a semester basis. Sponsored members cannot purchase a yearly pass.
**Expansion of those eligible to use the facilities is considered to be on a trial basis. Continuation of the service will depend on the level of facility use throughout each trial period.
A. Conditions of Family and Sponsored Individuals
a- Each current eligible user may sponsor for membership only one adult (either a spouse or a sponsored adult) during an academic year.
b- Sponsored adults/spouses CANNOT sponsor for membership additional adults.
c- Eligible users must be present and have either their current SSU ID or current membership card when signing up a spouse or sponsored adult.

B. Family and Sponsored Individual Membership Categories
1. Spouse
Any spouse sponsored by a current eligible user of the facilities. Verifying identification in the form of a picture ID must be presented.
2. Sponsored Adult
Any person of at least 18 years of age sponsored by a current eligible user of the Rec Center facilities. Verifying identification in the form of a picture ID must be presented.
3. Dependent Child 16-18 Years of Age
Any immediate family member/s of a current eligible user between ages 16 and 18 years old qualifies for a sponsored membership. Verifying identification in the form of a birth certificate or Social Security card must be presented for each child.
4. Dependent Child 18-25 Years of Age
Any 18-25 year old dependent child of a current eligible user who lives with his/her parents or who is declared as a dependent on his/her parents’ income tax return, may be sponsored for membership. The dependent must provide proof of age and verifying ID as an immediate family member.
Conditions of Family Memberships for Children:
a. The eligible user must be present and have either their current SSU ID or current Rec Center membership card when signing up any children/dependents age 18-25 years.
b. The Children/Dependent(s) Must Also Be Present When Being Signed Up; three Child Dependents can be sponsored at most by each CR member.
c. Guidelines listed in the Rec Center-Guest pass Policy about children’s ages MUST be followed at all times.
1. Children under 16 years of age are NOT permitted to be in the Recreation Center at any time.
2. Toddlers under the age of 3 years old are not permitted to use or be in pool at all times.


III. Daily passes

Daily passes can be purchased by only current eligible users, that do not wish to purchase a semester or year membership but would like to occasionally use the Rec Center facilities. The following guidelines exist for purchasing Daily passes:
a. Those eligible to purchase Daily Passes for their own use are: extended education students, faculty, staff, and alumni. All must have verifying identification of status as previously outlined under Eligible Users of Rec Center Facilities.
b. Students, those with current membership cards, or those eligible to purchase a daily pass for their own use can sponsor individuals in their immediate family, under 18 years of age, for daily pass fees. All guidelines listed above must be followed.
*** Any Current eligible user that wishes to bring an individual into the Rec Center that does not qualify for a daily pass fees can do so by bringing the individual in as a Guest. See the Guest Pass policy.


IV. Guest Pass
Students and those with current memberships to the Rec Center may sponsor guests under the following guidelines.
1. A guest pass must be purchased for each visitor at the Front Desk.
The eligible user sponsoring a guest must be present and show a current SSU ID card, current membership card, or be eligible for and have purchased a daily pass.
2. Passes are good one for a one-day’s visit. It is not required that guests be present at the time of purchase, however, in this case, the pass must be completely filled out by the Rec Center Staff before the pass can be used to gain entry into the facilities.
3. Upon arriving at the facilities, guests must report to the fitness center desk and present their photo ID and pass. The pass information is then completed and one copy is retained for records.
4. Each guest pass costs $8.00.
5. A current eligible user is allowed a maximum of three guests per visit.
6. Sponsoring individuals are responsible for the conduct of their guests within the Rec Center.
7. Children under 16 years of age are not permitted to receive a guest pass, and are not allowed in the Rec Center at any time.
8. When Children between ages 16 and 18 years are sponsored as guests, there must be at least one adult authorized user per every three children in the facilities. The adult user must remain in the building area the entire time the children are in the facilities.


V. 10-Time Punch Pass
Any non-student member that is eligible for a Daily Pass or Guest Pass can purchase a punch card valid for ten Rec Center visits. This pass is available for use in the Rec Center only, and does not permit use of the pool. Punch passes are only valid for 10 uses, however they do not expire. To purchase a punch pass, a form of a picture ID card must be shown. 10-Time Punch Passes are available for purchase at the Front Desk, and are $65.00 each. Non members may also purchase a 10 punch pool pass for $20.00 each, like the Rec Center punch passes, they do not expire


VI. Sign-Up Procedures
All members will bring all verification and proof of status to the Rec Center Front desk, where a cashier will help choose and purchase appropriate membership or pass. Like the current membership process, a member will receive a Campus Rec card, and he or she will be able to use the facility before the CR card is available at the front desk.
