Computing Accounts Available at the IT Helpdesk
To obtain one of the following computing accounts, students, staff and faculty must come to the IT HelpDesk and present valid campus i.d.
All currently enrolled students (including Extended Ed., SSALI, Open University & Classified Graduates), staff & faculty may have email accounts. Email accounts can be accessed from any computer on the Internet.
Campus Departments may also apply for generically named accounts for university use. There is a one-time fee of $50 for generically named accounts. An authorized person from the department must fill out, sign, and submit an Account Request Form to the Help Desk for the account.
Meeting Maker
IT can set up one personal Meeting Maker account for each currently employed faculty and staff member that requests one, and one additional account per department. Accounts needed beyond that may require additional funding.
Personal accounts must be set up with the same name as on the person's SSU Seawolf ID (LDAP). Each additional account can be for other people or resources.
Meeting Maker is a network-based, calendar and meeting scheduling application. You will need a computer that meets SSU's hardware standards to use Meeting Maker.
Backup/Domain Accounts
IT can provide any SSU employee with remote file storage space on our central fileservers. These servers are backed up nightly and are in the protected environment of the Information Technology machine room. Employees will receive 150MB of personal, secure data storage space on the server. Most people will find 150MB of space enough for their most important files. Special arrangements are necessary for additional space.
This server space is access through an SSU Domain login which can be aquired at the IT Help Desk. SSU Domain logins can also be used to access some parts of Peoplesoft not currently accessible through the web.
Campus Web Servers
All currently enrolled students, staff & faculty, as well as any school, department, or sponsored student organization may request space on the campus web servers. Extended Education and Open University students are not eligible for web server accounts. Students may obtain space for personal pages, subject to the restrictions in the policy regarding student web pages.
www.sonoma.edu
Faculty and Staff may request personal web accounts, and departments may request departmental space on www.sonoma.edu. Students working on faculty, staff or departmental pages may have accounts, but only with the written permission of the owner of the personal or departmental directory.
www.students.sonoma.edu
Current matriculated students may request personal accounts on www.students.sonoma.edu. Student clubs and organizations may have space if they are on the Campus Life organizations list. Faculty/Staff advisors of Student Clubs/Organizations are required to have access to club folders.
For more information about web server accounts, see the Web Office FAQ.
WebCT Accounts
WebCT is the system SSU uses for online courses and course materials. All SSU courses have an associated WebCT course, though not all instructors choose to use them. Instructors and students can access WebCT with their SeaWolf ID via the Online Services Login.
Instructors may request WebCT guest accounts to give access to people from outside SSU by contacting the IT Web Office. This is to provide short-term access to select individuals - such as a guest lecturer. The Web Office cannot make guest accounts for large groups of individuals.
Instructors may also request WebCT Development Courses. Development Courses are intended to be the area where instructors can develop WebCT course content and store backups of courses they aren't currently teaching. Development courses are not included on the course listing. Student do not have access to Development Courses.
WebCT use other than official university courses must be approved by the Chief Information Officer. Contact the IT Web Office for more information.
