Recital Series Closes with Russian Band Works, Chilcott Requiem

Three days of back-to-back concerts at the Green Music Center will feature Sonoma State University’s largest performing ensembles under the direction of program leaders Doug Leibinger, Andy Collinsworth and Jenny Bent.

The performances on April 24, 25 and 26 take place in Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall. Tickets are $15 including parking, with discounts for seniors and students. Admission is free to SSU students with ID.

  • April 24, 7:30 p.m. SSU Jazz Orchestra and Latin Band — The university’s 18-piece big band, led by Doug Leibinger, specializes in the finest classic and modern repertoire. Latin Band shares the program, playing music from the Caribbean, Brazil and Haiti under the direction of Kendrick Freeman. Buy tickets.
  • April 25, 7:30 p.m. SSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble — Andy Collinsworth conducts a program of Russian wind music by Shostakovich and Kozhevnikov. The UC Berkeley Wind Ensemble led by Robert Calonico will play works by Bach, Perkins and Whitacre. Buy tickets.
  • April 26, 2:00 p.m. SSU Symphonic Chorus and Chamber Singers led by Jenny Bent perform the Requiem by acclaimed singer, composer and choral conductor Bob Chilcott. The 2010 work, set to Latin texts, pays homage to its predecessors yet has its own serene, meditative quality. Buy tickets.
