Jazz Orchestra with The Jeff Denson Trio featuring Lee Konitz
Wednesday, October 15, 7:30 p.m.
Joan and Sanford I. Weill Hall

Lee Konitz (born October 13, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American jazz composer and saxophone player. Konitz is sometimes regarded as the preeminent cool jazz saxophonist, because he performed and recorded with Claude Thornhill, Lennie Tristano (both often cited as important cool jazz proponents of the mid 1940s), and with Miles Davis’ on his epochal Birth of the Cool, which gave the form its name.

After more than a decade as a co-leader of the internationally acclaimed trio Minsarah, Jeff Denson is forging into new territory with his new trio featuring Joshua White on piano and Jon Arkin on drums. Jeff has performed with Lee Konitz since 2007 and has been a member of Lee Konitz New Quartet, the only permanent group that the eminent saxophonist has ever led.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Mel Graves fund. Can't make it to the concert? Check out the Jeff Denson Trio with Lee Konitz earlier the same day at the Jazz Forum.
