Below is a letter from Leo's wife, Cheleise, to the Sonoma State University community:

Dear Friends at Sonoma State University,

I just wanted to say a big, "THANK YOU," for your loving care and concern during our time of need. Leo, Gabe, Lucas and I truly appreciated your kindness. We were overwhelmingly touched by the heartfelt show of support and generosity.

I would like to thank each and every one of you who contributed your sick leave to the catastrophic leave bank so that Leo could access it. Your contribution allowed Leo and our family to focus our energy on Leo with less stress on our financial situation. It really made a big difference in our survival during his devastating illness.

I would also like to thank each and every one of you who sent your love and best wishes through gift baskets, cards, banners and flowers. Leo and I were touched by your loving expressions and your prayers for his recovery.

Currently, there is a plan to gather friends and family to celebrate Leo's life. The celebration will be held in November. The celebration will take place around the time that we would have celebrated his 60th birthday. The details are in development. Once the details have been confirmed, friends and family will be notified.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to share your thoughts and memories.

With love and gratitude,
