Dr. Michael Pinkston will be celebrating his retirement from Sonoma State University on Wednesday, May 25 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the University Club. All are welcome to drop by during that time to join him in celebrating, and for public comments beginning soon after 5 p.m.
Pinkston is leaving his position at Counseling and Psychological Services on June 2, after 15 years of providing counseling to students and consultation to staff and faculty.
During that time he served for several years on the Wellness Committee, for nine years on the Professional Development Subcommittee, and for six years as a Senator representing Lecturers on the Academic Senate.
For the past eleven years, Pinkston's duties have also included coordinating a training program for graduate students who come to Counseling and Psychological Services from five different Ph.D. programs in the Bay Area to receive additional supervised counseling experience.
Pinkston received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Texas Tech University in 1974 and became licensed as a psychologist in California in 1976. He has provided counseling, consultation, and training in the following settings: university counseling center, community mental health clinic, rural health clinic, medical hospital, psychiatric hospital, Peace Corps Training, and an international exchange student program.
Pinkston has continued to maintain a private practice in Sonoma County since 1981 and has served as President of the Redwood Psychological Association and as a board member of the California Psychological Association.
