In honor of halloween, here's a scary story... one of my favorite radio shows, Democracy Now!, is being threatened by management at Pacifica Radio. Basically Pacifica is trying to force Amy Goodman out of her job as co-host. Amy is an award winning, totally heroic journalist. I hope they fail miserably. Pacifica Radio is such a mess, that FAIR has a series of webpages devoted to it! posted 10/31/2000 (link me, baby)

Silly poem from Mad Magazine, that's stuck in my head. It's ancient, but I still remember the lines... Oh, why must my brainpower be wasted in this way?! My poor little brainpan.
There's little reason to discuss
the fuzzy brained Aquarius.
His mind is in the stratosphere,
the rest of him is barely here.
Psychiatrists throw up their hands
and mutter things about his glands.
In truth, his problem is clear cut,
he's just a happy, harmless nut!

The New York Times recently reported "Iraq Won't Let Outside Experts Assess Sanctions' Impact on Lives." And yet, there are hundreds of outside experts in Iraq, who have been collecting this data for years! And, that information is available in the UN briefing that the NY Times used for their story! What is up with that?! I'm sure Secretary General Kofi Annan must be feeling really frustrated with the U.S. Press. For example, back in august 1999 the poor guy wrote a 104 paragraph briefing on the oil for food program, it contained two paragraphs of criticism. The NY Times wrote an entire article on those two paragraphs, totally ignoring all positive comments and praise. By the way, the same reporter wrote both stories. Her name is Barbara Crossette and I hope she's ashamed of the disservice her poor reporting does for both the United States and Iraq. The "lack of ethics" factor here is pretty big. posted 9/18/2000 (link me, baby)
