Core Program Faculty



Gary Hochman has worked in the development of organizations for over 20 years during which he has served in senior executive, staff, and consulting roles. As founder of The HR Matrix, his consulting practice integrates strategy, work systems design, team performance, and human resources practices to enhance organization effectiveness and employee engagement.

Throughout his career, Gary has led countless projects helping executives and managers rapidly achieve results in a wide variety of demanding situations. His facilitation and leadership skills coupled with his business acumen and understanding of organization change, have made him successful in start-ups, mature organizations, and rapid growth companies. His expertise includes business process improvement, meeting design and facilitation, and the design and implementation of strategic human resources solutions.

Gary is the former vice president of human resources at OCLI / JDSU and served as the senior OD consultant for Hewlett-Packard. In addition to his commitment to Sonoma State University and his consulting practice, Gary is the president of the Community Child Care Council of Sonoma County (4Cs).


Judith Noel, M.Ed., has degrees in Education, Counseling Psychology, and Organizational Behavior. She has expertise in organization culture change, leadership development, diversity, work redesign efforts, quality improvement processes and building high performance cross-functional teams.

Ms. Noel brings a rich background in understanding people in numerous industries and coaches senior executives in Fortune 100 companies. Her 22 year old bi-coastal consulting firm, the Seapoint Consulting Corporation, specializes in organizational change and executive development. She currently leads an international group of women in a five-year collaborative research project on women's leadership. She is the founder of the LUNA Institute for Women's Leadership and Learning.

She has held teaching positions at the Whithemore School of Business and Economics, the Universities of New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Georgetown. Ms. Noel is certified in the administration and interpretation of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, and qualifies practitioners in the instrument through Otto Kroeger Associates. She offers advanced training using the MBTI in organizational settings.

Sara Tickler, Psy.D. is a senior partner with The Results Group. She brings to her work a depth of experience and expertise in organization development, change management, business process improvement, survey construction and administration, and conflict resolution.

Sara has worked with a wide variety of government and private clients, including the
Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, Kaiser Permanente, the East Bay Municipal Utility District, the State Department of Corrections, and the State Department of Health Services.

Sara holds a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Psychology from the Professional School of Psychology where she co-teaches a course on Dissertation Readiness and has her Masters Degree in Organization Development from Sonoma State University.

Gisela Wendling, Ph.D. is the Coordinator of the Pychology MA in OD at Sonoma State. In her work as an organization development practitioner and facilitator of learning, Gisela's goal is to support the design of organizational conditions that enable individuals to thrive and to support them in developing their capacity to initiate, engage in, and lead change.

Gisela brings 10 years of working with organizations as an internal OD consultant, director of learning and development, and independent OD consultant. She has expertise in organizational assessment and strategy, organization-wide culture change, leadership development, training design and delivery, executive coaching, and using coaching as an integrated supervisory approach. She is an experienced facilitator of a variety of small-group and large-group methodologies. Her work is guided by dialogic approaches to evoke the innate wisdom at all levels of human systems.

She immigrated to the US in her early twenties and received both her undergraduate education in humanistic psychology and graduate education in organization development at Sonoma State University. She completed her doctoral work at Fielding Graduate University in 2005 with an interdisciplinary focus on human and leadership development, systems thinking, transformative learning, indigenous wisdom, and ethnography. Her doctoral research explored the creative tensions at the core of transition processes and offers a re-conceptualization of the rites of passage framework.

Geoff's picture

Geoff Bellman worked inside major corporations (Ideal Basic Industries, Amoco, and G.D. Searle) fourteen years before starting his own consulting firm in 1977. His external consulting has focused on renewing large, mature corporations such as Booz Allen & Hamilton, U.S. Bancorp, Verizon, Intuit, Ernst & Young, Shell, Price Waterhouse Coopers, BP, SABMiller, Boeing, and Accenture.

Over 250,000 copies of Geoff’s books are in print in a dozen languages:

Geoff’s consulting and workshops have taken him to five continents.  He serves as guest faculty for university graduate programs including Pepperdine, Fielding, Antioch, and Bowling Green and Sonoma State. In 2006, Geoff was chosen to receive a national award from Organization Development Network for his contributions and generosity in advancing the profession. 

Geoff grew up in Washington state, completed his undergraduate work at Gonzaga University and graduate work at the University of Oregon.

Saul Eisen, Ph.D. is one of the founders of the OD Program at SSU. His international consulting practice integrates strategic planning, whole system redesign, and organization development. His work has been widely published in professional journals and books on organization development, and he is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences.

Saul's research interests focus on how organizations can become more effective, sane, and continually self-renewing through dialogue and inquiry into their own ways of working and communicating. His paper,
Redesigning Human and Global Systems; A Conceptual and Strategic Framework describes his approach in consulting and training consultants.

Saul provides consulting and facilitation to organizations and communities in the US and abroad. Among his clients have been educational institutions such as Rancho Cotate High School, Instituto Centro-Americano Administración de Empresa (Costa Rica), and the Jerusalem Academy of Art; Fortune 500 companies such as Bank of America, Texas Instruments, and Hewlett-Packard; and community organizations such as the City of Sebastopol, the Napa County Department of Health and Human Services, the School Board and Town Council of Windsor, and the Oregon Symphony.



Lee Glickstein
is founder of Speaking Circles © International and author of Be Heard Now! Tap Into Your Inner Speaker and Communicate with Ease (Broadway Books). An authority on presence, ease and authenticity with groups, he is a keynote speaker and a leadership communications consultant and trainer. He delivers programs and coaching sessions with a unique combination of inspiration and step-by-step innovation to clients ranging from top professional communicators and business leaders, to "non-speakers" with severe stage fright.

A lifetime of stage fright motivated Lee to develop a gentle, elegant approach to break through epidemic fear of being fully oneself in public. This process of discovery led him to a thorough understanding of the principles of authentic presence. Lee has been a member of the Northern California Chapter of the National Speakers Association since 1990. In 1996, he was awarded the Athena Award for Excellence in Coaching and Mentoring.

He lives in Woodacre, California, with his wife Audrey and theree cats, and his hobby is constructing crossword puzzles for the New York Times.



Lisa Heft
is a facilitator and interactive learning specialist known
internationally for her resources, trainings, tools and workshops on Open
Space Technology and other dialogic and interactive methods for engaging
deeper reflection, learning and dialogue. Whether facilitating
international conferences, consulting on conflict resolution processes for
teams working in Northern Iraq and East Timor, engaging interdisciplinary
thinking between housekeepers, hospitality managers and CEOs for the future
of a luxury resort facility, teaching interactive learning methods to health
monitoring specialists from developing nations, or facilitating learning and
dialogue with prison inmates -- Ms. Heft is known for her thoughtful design,
clarity of communication and ability to bring diverse people together in
dialogue and co-creation.

Lenny Lind is President of CoVision, which has supported organization development projects with appropriate technologies since 1985. In 1991, CoVision began fielding a portable groupware system for meetings -- Council -- through which anonymous feedback from participants allows the views of a whole group to be addressed while all are still convened. To date, 2500 meetings have been supported by the firm. In 1997, work began on WebCouncil - an online collaboration platform for dispersed teams. This was the system used to host a Delphi conference moderated by Saul Eisen, to consider future OD intervention strategies, and the continuing professional development of OD practitioners.

Keith Merron, Ph.D.
is the founder and Managing Partner of Avista Consulting Group, an organizational consulting and leadership development firm dedicated to helping organizations with bold visions achieve sustainable high performance and industry leadership. As an organization effectiveness and executive development consultant, he has more than 20 years of experience assisting executives and managers in business, government, and education. In partnership with his clients, he has successfully conducted over twenty large-system cultural change efforts resulting in a measurable increase in organizational productivity, employee performance, and employee satisfaction. His work has positively impacted Hewlett-Packard, Freddie Mac, AmeriGroup Corporation, MedCath, Wang Laboratories, General Public Utilities, WorldCorp, Endocare, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and scores of other companies and organizations.

Keith received his Doctorate from Harvard University in 1985, where his studies spanned the fields of human and organization development. He has conducted research on the relationships between human development, managerial effectiveness and high performance, and has published numerous professional journal articles. He has also written a critically acclaimed book on the subject of Whole Systems Change entitled, Riding the Wave: Designing Your Organization for Enduring

 

Tony Petrella has consulted to key executives in major corporations in the United States and internationally for over 40 years.  His work has always focused on developing greater commitment and accountability through restructuring work and improving relationships in organizations as well as creating a more trusting and risk-taking approach on the part of management.

Tony brings considerable experience, perspective, and insight to his clients about business strategy, leadership, individual and team behavior, how organizations work and how to bring about change.  His approach is collaborative, using and releasing the energy, knowledge and wisdom of his clients to achieve improved organizational performance.

The primary focus of his current work is advising key executives and consulting on issues of the management of organizational change. He consults with a few select clients and teaches in executive programs at both Columbia and Pepperdine University.  He has been a guest lecturer at The Brookings Institution and Queens University. 

In 1968 Tony co-founded Block Petrella Weisbord, Inc., and served as its managing partner until 1995. From 1975 to 1985 he also served as the Executive Director of the National Organization Development Network, a professional organization dedicated to the humanization of work and the enhancement of organizational effectiveness.  Tony has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations, both from the University of Minnesota.


Robert (Skip) Robinson, Ph.D
.is a Lecturer at SSU and has facilitated studies, designs and program implementations on grants from such foundations as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, the Vanguard Foundation, the Foundation for Social Innovation, the Meadows Foundation, the Gere Foundation, and the Tides Foundation. He maintains a part-time consulting practice primarily for public jurisdictions, nonprofits, foundations and health care institutions on the subjects of integrative learning, human resources, health care and benefits, organization systems and collaborative conflict resolution.

At SSU he acted as a core faculty member in the development of the SSU Conflict Resolution Certificate Program and as co-facilitator in the development of the Global Studies Program. He co-teaches courses in collaborative negotiation, mediation and cross-cultural negotiation and conflict resolution. He has also been involved with the SSU Psychology Department's Learning Community, the War & Peace lecture Series, and the Hutchins Center for Interdisciplinary Learning. He teaches psychology and collaborative conflict resolution internationally with the Conflict Resolution, Research, and Resource Institute and National Center Associates.

He has been associated with CRI and NCS on projects in the U.S., Russia, Poland, and countries of Latin America, including Cuba, where he served as a project director and teacher at the Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales, and worked with the Foreign Ministry in Havana. He completed his Ph.D. in Psychology at the Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco, with dissertation research focusing on improving the design of outpatient managed care mental health systems. He recently established the initiative at SSU on The Health Care Crisis in Sonoma County.



Drawing no sharp distinction between work and play, Edie and Charlie Seashore have been surfing white water through half a century of experiences that have ranged from individuals to small groups to large gatherings, from organizations to systems to global institutions, and now to understand “use of self” as the focus of their work.

Edith Whitfield Seashore, M.A., has more than forty years of experience in successfully training and consulting with governments and corporations in organizational development and behavior. She is a past president of the NTL Institute and currently is on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Change Management. She is the co-founder of the American University/NTL Institute Master's Program in Organization Development and continues as a faculty member in that program. She has co-edited The Promise of Diversity as well as the book What Did You Say? The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback.

Charles Seashore, Ph.D., has 37 years of experience as a consultant and trainer in corporations, health care, higher education and government. He is currently on the faculty of the Doctoral Program in Human and Organizational Development of the Fielding Institute and teaches with Edith in the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Change Management and the American University/NTL Institute Master's program in Organization Development. He is an organization development consultant in many health care institutions including academic medical centers and teaching hospitals. He is a past chair of the board of the NTL Institute and co-authored the book What Did You Say? The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback.
