Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations-A person's ability to perceive, identify, understand and work with emotion has been re-badged as their emotional intelligence. The site offers some popular measures of emotional intelligence, detailed research papers as well as useful statistics for initiating an emotional intelligence framework for staff development. Emotional Intelligence-The concept of emotional intelligence became popular after the immense success of Daniel Goleman's book in 1995, Emotional Intelligence, Why It Can Matter More Than IQ. Emotional Intelligence-Emotional intelligence is a relatively new construct that complements the well-known notion of cognitive intelligence (commonly measured as IQ). Emotional intelligence makes sense as largely determining how people interact with themselves, others and what their potential for success is, beyond what their level of cognitive intelligence may be.Central Missouri ASTD-Samples of resources for Emotional Intelligence The Affect of Emotional Intelligence on a Modern Organizational Leader’s Ability to Make Effective Decisions-an article by By Samuel E. Role of Information Technology in Managing Organizational Change and Organizational Interdependence (Malhotra) This paper sets forth the application of open systems theory for generating propositions regarding the management of organizational change and organizational interdependence by application of IT. The commonly preferred approaches - goal theory, population ecology, systems resource theory and transaction costs theory - are inadequate in providing a "holistic" perspective of the organizational issues. The article argues that the survival and growth of organizations in an increasingly turbulent environment would depend upon effective utilization of information technology for aligning the organizational structure with environmental preferences and for creating symbiotic interorganizational structures. An Analogy to a Competitive Intelligence Program (Malhotra) This paper uses Competitive Intelligence Program as an analogy for explaining the critical aspects of measurement in organizational research. A conceptual model of Competitive Intelligence Program is developed based on extant practitioner literature. Key aspects of this model are then used for defining the 'critical ingredients' of measurement in organizational research: constructs, validity, and reliability, as well as their interrelationships. On Science, Scientific Method And Evolution Of Scientific Thought (Malhotra) This paper reviews the various interpretations of the role of science in discovering truth in the process of theory development and knowledge creation. This process is then analyzed with respect to the evolution of scientific thought from logical positivism to scientific realism. What Is A Learning Organization? Human and knowledge capital are undoubtedly the fundamental factors for economic prosperity and sustainable superior business competence. Yet these resources are not systemically and strategically managed to enhance business productivity or to demonstrate their maximal value to the firm. This may lead to the inefficient use, under valuation of, and under investment in intellectual capital. The creation of a corporate focus for nurturing intellectual capital for achieving strategic objectives is at least as important as, and perhaps more urgent than, the current emphasis on assigning monetary value to intellectual capital. A key element of running an effective evaluation of the applicant's organization
is the ability to utilize the unique knowledge and skills of all the examiners
in the assessment team. This paper looks at the skills and techniques
senior examiners utilize to transfer learning among their assessment teams.
Using interviews, observations, personal participation and relevant documents,
a theory of the successful senior examiner as a mentor was developed following
the principles of "grounded theory." Key findings are that mentoring
can lead to the development of skills where training courses often fall
short. It is also shown how mentoring has had an impact on the examination
process and the award process as well as on individuals.

The home page is bright and straightforward, with no extraneous detail, just facsimile front covers of EQ and its associated journals Measuring Business Excellence and UK Excellence (from the British Quality Foundation), an access point to the featured article of the latest issue and links to two EOQ special reports (on the European Quality Award 1997 and 'the customer' when your reviewer visited). Contents pages are given for the latest issues, followed by abstracts or extracts and 'reference points' from articles, surveys and case studies appearing in the journal, together with news, information, book reviews, etc. Copious links are provided to the Web sites of companies or individuals mentioned and cross-references are given to related articles in previous issues or the sister journals. The lead article or report appears in full. A speedy and attractive site with real value for quality professionals. Innovation Journal - Published by Deloitte & Touche, exists to promote ideas for change and innovation in the public sector and aims to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of government administration and policy. Doesn't waste time on fancy graphics, preferring to concentrate efforts on helping visitors navigate to information quickly. Full-text HTML articles get to the core of the quest for innovation and detailed case studies provide valuable insight into putting theory into practice. Book reviews are a useful addition to the reference list and signpost a path through a wealth of information published in the field of quality practice and innovation. An impressive list of Web links is categorized by subject. Although there are different business imperatives between the public and private sectors, forms an excellent resource for managers in either camp. International Organization for Standardization - The Web site of the International Organization for Standardization features a graphically well-laid out home page, although most of its other pages are text based. While this site offers a lot of information with respect to ISO standards, its particular value is the 'hot' link to 'other Web servers providing standards information' found at the bottom of the home page. This provides visitors with links to, as far as your reviewer could determine, all national standards bodies. Following these links, each site provides country-specific standards information along with other associated service and publication offerings. These could offer a practical working tool for some, as well as interest to others. Overall, very useful. Kaizen Institute - Home of the Kaizen Institute, created by Mr Masaaki Imai, who introduced kaizen to the world, this site takes visitors on a virtual tour where, behind each of several doors, a different application of the kaizen philosophy emerges or an additional resource is revealed. 'Kaizen news around the world' provides access to full-text articles from business journals which carry the kaizen message, and this page also supports links to other related sites. The Kaizen Forum Magazine is available in full text and visitors can take the kaizen quiz to check their understanding of the operation of kaizen in the workplace. Features insightful, practical tips for the implementation of and how to bring senior management on board. Case studies presented across several industries further assist the reader to appreciate the benefits in productivity and workplace health resulting from the implementation of such programmes. Overall, a useful site for the quality management specialist. OutsourcingBenchmarking.com- Electronic publisher The OutsourcingCenter's ever-expanding suite of resources corresponds directly with the expansion and growth of outsourcing culture. OutsourcingBenchmarking.com is another in the publisher's list that is almost repleat in its coverage of outsourced business practice. Stresses that, to outsource effectively, you must benchmark current practices first - knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of its own company assists the organization to develop a successful relationship with an outsourcer. Takes visitors through the reasons for outsourcing and how and why benchmarking the existing business is so crucial before going outside. Provides assistance on what to benchmark, tools and tips, and the benefits yielded. Invites visitors to join a discussion group to share benchmarking knowledge and scenarios, check out prospective outsourcers and get answers to benchmarking FAQs. With all information accessible from the home page, navigation is a breeze. Pinnacle Group - Pinnacle offers training and consultancy on areas such as culture change, performance management and, of course, total quality management. Advertises these via its site along with various other products and services that push the quality message. Offers potential clients a choice of a broad range of existing business training courses or a customized alternative. For the casual visitor, the online archive presents an extensive collection of short but practical articles, evaluations and newsletters as well as discussion boards, and membership (arranged through a simple registration process) promises even more targeted information. Recommended books can be ordered via Amazon.com or Jossey-Bass. A worthwhile site for visitors, although additional links to related sites would be useful. The Quality Management Principle Site- This site developed by Krister Forsberg provides a clear and concise definition of the principles of quality management, the ISO 9000 family of international quality standards and states how to apply the principles to existing management practices. This well designed site also incorporates a 'Forum' discussion area and encourages participation and discussion of quality issues. Quality Online - More convenient, with more features that its hard cover version, 'Quality Online' is published with the quality assurance and process improvement needs of manufacturing professionals in mind. Editorial coverage focuses on the practical application of and the latest advancements in metrology methods and equipment (e.g. gauges, machine tool measurement), software and analytical tools (e.g. statistical process control, process mapping) and overall quality management. Management feature articles are presented in full text and are accompanied by break-out boxes reiterating the main points or benefits. The article archive contains six years' worth of material and is updated monthly. The editorial style is relaxed and avoids the use of technical jargon, preferring instead to drive home the business message that no manufacturer can afford not to employ quality from the shop floor to the boardroom. Quality Technology and Management Homepage- The Homepage of the Division of Quality Technology and Management at Linköping University, a site that from its mission statement aims to "develop knowledge and competence in Total Quality Management and its supporting methods for use in the ongoing improvement process in the Swedish society. Our most important customers are our MSc and PhD students, both here and now and in their future professional roles, as well as their future employers, and the Swedish society at large." - A well presented site with access to a center of excellence in TQM, a research area and a listing of publications, a useful and informative site. Zigon Performance Group- The Zigon Performance Group (ZPG) is a management consulting firm specializing in all phases of performance measurement: from creating custom performance appraisal systems to the development of performance management and measurement systems. Its site offers consulting expertise in addition to access to published resources in the field. Everything on the site is free to the casual visitor and the design has been kept simple. Resources are varied and contain hundreds of performance measurement examples, grouped under job function, which managers can adapt to their own business and several useful links to related sites. The wisdom of 13 years in the industry is offered to visitors in the form of full-text articles from the ZPG chief executive and selected articles from professional journals in the field are also available. For a bit of light relief, check out the humor section. American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC)- The APQC’s site provides resources on benchmarking studies and many other quality management topics such as knowledge management, productivity and quality measurement, and customer satisfaction. The APQC not only provides consultancy services in the area and despatches a free newsletter, but its site is also home to the International Benchmarking Clearinghouse, designed to help managers from private companies and government agencies, healthcare providers and educational institutions discover, apply or adapt best practices in benchmarking to their workplaces. APQC publications may be ordered online and, shortly, site visitors will be able to search the bookshop's collection by subject, enhancing the current procedure of serendipitous browsing of the bookshop's collection of resources. In addition, full-text articles from relevant journals are available to the casual site visitor. A specialist site for the quality, especially benchmarking, practitioner. American Society for Quality- This upbeat Web site covers a wide range of information and services to members and nonmembers alike, providing useful definitions of quality terms. Access to the ASQ's online quality databases are available to nonmembers but for a small fee, and for the quality manager details of conferences and other professional events are available. New for 1999 is the site's 'Virtual Quality Network', a worldwide directory of goods and services from participating organization involved in quality. A search by company name will link to their respective web sites. Also useful is ASQ's plain English explanation of international standards and the key players in their design and development. Combine all this with more links to other related sites and this represents a solid resource for managers. Association for Quality and Participation- AQP, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving workplaces through quality and participation practices, has put together a very accomplished Web site, with all the elements one expects from a society presence on the Net. A colorful home page greets you with a concise mission statement, a listing of some highlights to be found on the site, and a 'What's New' link, and a side navigation bar (which unfortunately disappears as you scroll down the pages) displays some straightforward links to other pages. These include information on AQP, its chapters, publications ('The Journal for Quality and Participation', which is not available online, and 'News for a Change', only available to members), US national team excellence award (though AQP is an 'international' society!), educational events and conference. Additionally, members can access the Information Center, which promises discounts on books, reprinted articles, career and library services. Well designed, but very much a member-oriented site, with relatively little of interest to nonmembers. Change Management- Sponsored by ProSci, is a resource library that hosts books, articles, training materials, Web site leads, benchmarking tools and consultants in the field of change management. These five resource types support information on change management models and industry best practice. Go directly to the article 'library' for several full-text articles on organizational change, new models for high performance, a complacency check and benchmarking. Unfortunately, keyword searching is not available at the site so browsing is the order of the day. Although the information at this site is useful, finding it is a serendipitous process, and several links are not currently working. globeNet-
Promoted as the complete source for ISO
14000 information, globeNet offers practical awareness, implementation,
registration and maintenance solutions for environmental management
and ISO 14000. It provides an in-depth look at the background, development
and current status of ISO 14000, a series of voluntary environmental
management standards and guidelines. An easy way to move around the
site is by using the site map. 'News Briefs' offers snippets of what's
happening right now in the industry. The 'Links Database' offers several
hot links to organizations across various industries which are participating
in 'quality' activities. Not all information is free: some in-depth
information requires a paid subscription for access. Nevertheless, there
is still a substantial number of useful reports, articles and training
tips free for the casual site visitor. Case studies documenting the
experience of other organizations provide a useful point of reference
for the implementation of ISO 14000 into your organization. Again, though,
many of these case studies are only available to subscribers. This Website
is a useful guide for the implementation of ISO 14000 into small and
medium-sized companies. The 'Earth Vision Business Directory' contains
links to 800 businesses engaged in environmental management and has
links to these companies.
Quality Management Links Collection- Access to a large collection of quality information including some great online texts. Pages do contain a large amount of graphics so if you accessing over a slow connection, things may take a while to download. The pages contain some great pointers to begin some research, this site is one for the bookmarks file. Quality Resources Online- Occupying what is no doubt one of the most desirable Web addresses, Quality Resources Online claims to be the site of ‘the most comprehensive collection of free quality-related information, groups, discussion lists and resources in cyberspace’ and in fact links to a wide range of sites across the disciplines encompassed by the term ‘quality’, from quality in health care (including a listing of consultants), to benchmarking and ISO resources. There are also conference and workshop listings, e-mail discussion lists, job opportunities, and a quality-book-of-the-week (with a link to Amazon Books for speedy ordering – what a splendid idea!). However, whether the site can live up to its ‘comprehensive’ claim is open to discussion: there is a distinct US bias (understandable perhaps from US-based Associated Quality Consultants, Inc.) and, while ASQ is heavily represented, no mention at all is made of, for example, European or other national bodies.

The Business Case Web Site- On its Web site, management consultant Solutions Matrix Ltd reinforces the value of a sound business case in supporting strategic directions, offering an eight-step program for better business case preparation beginning with setting directions, moving though the appreciation of the impacts of change to validating and implementing the business case recommendations. Invites visitors to engage the firm for in-house training but offers plenty of free information as an alternative. Provides downloadable guides to structure and content, accuracy and credibility, plus a variety of particularly useful case studies (covering tourism, marketing, work/family programs, consumer privacy, pollution prevention inter alia). Extends its amenity via extensive links to a range of management journals and related sites, and visitors may also subscribe to a free cost/benefit e-newsletter. Another useful reference is an encyclopaedia of business terms for when only the right word will do. The CI Resource Centre- The Competitive Intelligence Resource Centre's site is for executives with little time to lose looking to increase corporate intelligence. Provides a search engine and listing of sites organized by resource type, product and service. Keyword searching unlocks the site contents whose broad subject categories include competitive intelligence associations, companies, publications, education, jobs and software. A free e-mail newsletter ensures you stay up to date with recent additions to the site. The index is also very well stocked with proven links to other Web sites. Most of the numerous full-text articles available are sourced from online journals, which provides the visitor with a quick link to additional information from those journals. Suitably structured to provide easy browsing while menu selection makes quick work of a search strategy. Add to all of this its currency, and it provides a truly valuable and timesaving resource. Darwin- The evolution of a non-technologist business executive into an enlightened, astute, demanding and confident exploiter of technology is one helluva mutation in one generation, but necessary. Focusing on the changes that have produced the new business world, this site offers several streams of information. To learn more about the new business concepts and language, or to research a specialist area such as knowledge management, leadership or e-business, go directly to one of the "Learning Centres". Alternatively, an interactive stream invites the visitor to pose a question to on-call experts or to listen to an audio presentation from their favorite business guru. Other useful features include a guru guide and a glossary of terms. Attractively presented, easy to navigate with well-written articles.g block methodology to help get started. A site that few strategists (and isn't that all of us?) can do without. eWeb- eWeb is a fascinating site developed by Saint Louis University (USA), with the intent of providing support to anyone interested in starting, running and growing a business. As a result, it provides access to expert services and a series of 'how-to' guides, particularly for small firms trying to use the Internet. However, in spite of its mandate to serve small business owners and entrepreneurs, this site is also relevant for those interested in entrepreneurship research and teaching; for example, it provides links to entrepreneurship texts and journals, entrepreneurship research centres, and also academic job postings. Fuld & Company - Competitive Intelligence Centre- A major player in the competitive intelligence think tank, Fuld & Company offers its clients the key to bottom-line gains through analysis of markets and competitors and the adoption of intelligence gathering skills. The good news for the casual visitor to this site is that he or she can also access some of this information for free and benefit from the company's expertise and experience. The Internet Intelligence Index points to over 600 other competitive intelligence-related sites. Contained in the free suite of tools is a corporate evaluation questionnaire to help set a base line for your organization in the competitive intelligence game. Having identified just where your company needs to concentrate its efforts, the Intelligence Organizer offers strategies to close the gaps and a building block methodology to help get started. A site that few strategists (and isn't that all of us?) can do without. Knowledge@Wharton- Sponsored by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a bi-weekly online resource that offers the latest business insights, information and research from a variety of sources. Contains analysis of current business trends, interviews with industry leaders and business research and articles. Organizes information at four levels so visitors can move from summaries, through to short journalistic articles or academic research papers to links to excellent related Web sites. Choose to search by keyword and or categories for retrieval of current information. Requires free instant registration to use most of the site but this includes a bimonthly e-mail newsletter. Discriminating managers, wanting to maintain that competitive edge would do well to keep this resource their little secret. Alliance Management International, Ltd- A strategic alliance is a shrewd way to gain a competitive advantage over industry competitors and, as Alliance Management International Ltd explains, successful business relationships do not happen by chance. This site presents to the visitor a range of interactive workshops and corporate consulting services aimed to foster and nurture alliances throughout the life cycle of this symbiotic relationship. Client testimonials from large and smaller companies alike speak in glowing terms about Alliance services and case studies across various industries are available upon request. Full-text articles published by Alliance are accessible as are selected articles from general business and management journals. These provide the site visitor with empirical evidence of strategic alliances at work. You would expect this company to have alliances of its own and it does so in the form of links to management strategy publications. The site also operates as a broker, bringing potential strategic partners together. Finally, for those who want to check the health of an existing alliance, complete the Alliance Evaluation Survey and email it to them for analysis - you might be surprised by the result. Arthur Andersen- From a global organization that sees itself in the business of knowledge provision, comes a slick and professional online resource. Reflects the Arthur Andersen creed of 'digging beyond the numbers' and provides a range of information and consulting services across management, operations, information technology and finance sectors. In addition to management consultancy services, the site houses media releases, selected reports, studies and white papers, all available in full text. A useful resource is the gathered strategic information on selected industries, further classified by world region, and major players. Arthur Andersen makes no secrets about its strategic partnerships and links to several other management consultants and software development companies. These links add to the already extensive list of valuable business sites in business and government. An interactive component allows site visitors to compare the performance of their own companies with others in such areas as risk management, outsourcing and change management. Managers can also take advantage of yet another warning to plan for the year 2000 with Arthur Andersen's technology and business checklist. An impressive site. CEO Exchange- According to this site, the CEO's lot can be summed up in three words: dilemmas, discovery and dialogue. Produced by the Catlin Group, aims its insight into corporate growth and critical business issues squarely at CEOs. Houses all information within three main sections: 'Dilemmas' invites top CEOs to relate the issues they faced in achieving growth, and currently contains 11 such case studies from companies such as Monster.com; 'Discovery' offers full-text articles covering areas such as innovation, mergers and survival tactics for business growth; and the 'Dialog' forum invites CEOs to open up, share their corporate experiences and learn from those of others (unsurprisingly, this section is not heavily used). Provides a solid list of Web sites ('sitings') further directing the curious or aspiring CEO. Corporate Board Member- A resource for board members of public companies, is skewed towards directors of public companies listed with Nasdaq and the New York and American Stock Exchanges. A paid subscription wins access to an up-to-date database of all directors and officers serving on boards of Nasdaq etc. listed companies, but for free the visitor has access to the current and two years' archive issues of the quarterly magazine. Employs an entertaining journalistic style in its coverage of corporate board life and governance trends, but this does not undermine the seriousness with which its writers hold the responsibility of being 'on the board'. Although pitched at a select market segment, its appeal extends to senior management in general. European Business Forum- As you would expect from the title, introduces a European perspective to global business issues - succeeds through a mix of articles sourced from business leaders, academics and consultants. Local issues such as the long working hours culture in the UK share the site with shared global issues such as environmental management systems, factors contributing to successful mergers and acquisitions and the creation of new business models to adapt to a changing business environment. In addition to the full-text articles, other features include online debates or forums on management issues that invite visitor participation, and a section devoted solely to business in Europe, which also provides links to several other business sites in the region. Visitors short on time would do well to go directly to 'e-highlights' for a quick news roundup. Fulfils its charter of providing a regional perspective on the business world, and is available in any one of four languages. INSEAD, The European Institute of Business administration- INSEAD was originally created as a European institute for management education on the model of the American Business School. Access to the site is speedy and straightforward, and once into the main site, navigation to specific areas is good. The contents are split into four main areas: meet INSEAD, programs, research, and faculty and staff. If you are unsure as to exactly where the data you require are located, or you wish to see all the data on a specific subject, then just click on the Global Query, and make use of the excellent site search tool. The research part of the site holds a host of information across most management areas and in various forms. Information available includes: new publications, INSEAD case studies, INSEAD working papers, books and articles by INSEAD faculty, and business simulations. The 224 working papers, across a wide range of business disciplines, can be ordered online. This site should prove useful to many researchers, and others interested in one of the world's most eminent business schools. It is a delight to navigate with a user-friendly approach. MagPortal.com- A useful portal to strategy and management articles on the Web, MagPortal.com offers both free-text searching and category browsing to visitors looking for shortcuts. In addition to the articles, other features include 'free feeds', not a reference to a food queue but a mechanism through which visitors can integrate selected, recent articles into their own Web sites. Also free, is the weekly e-mail newsletter containing recent article highlights. Utilizes a basic, no-frills design and very few navigational aids, except for subject categories and subcategorizes, which makes searching serendipitous but thorough site indexing ensures that, once you have located a useful article, a collection of similar ones become available through cascading links. The Management Web Resources Database- Compiled and maintained by the department of management at the UK's University of Keele, this site aims to give the 'business community, management researchers and other users the most up to date, relevant news and information' through a selection of the most accurate and timely resources available. With minimal graphics, and a selection restricted to less than 400 links, all of which are checked and verified, with weekly updates, speedy searching and quality coverage are assured. The compilers avoid blatantly commercial sites, selecting resources with substantial amounts of free information in addition to any that must be paid for and arranging them into categories including online library catalogues, business schools and universities, US and UK government sites, news and the media, gateways to organizational information, quality management, marketing and operations management. Simple and straightforward, and potentially a very valuable resource. Modern Management- Subtitled 'Tips, advice and news for career professionals', 'Modern Management' is a bimonthly 'e-zine' devoted to the dissemination of 'the latest ideas in writing, presentation, leadership and team-building'. Created by Michael Egan, a consultant who has published a number of books on business writing and management-oriented cartoons, the site approaches the task energetically, with a colorful (perhaps to the detriment of readability) home page, leading into a number of thought-provoking items in what presumably are regular slots: leadership themes, presentation ideas, team-building tips and "the water cooler" (business humor). Egan also offers a 'Business Writer's Hotline', promising advice or solutions to your writing problems within 24 hours. Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management- This site introduces the work of the Drucker Foundation, which aims to bring together the finest leaders, consultants and social philosophers in the world with the leaders of social sector voluntary organizations to create a social sector of effective community organizations. Conference proceedings, annual awards for non-profit innovation and management resources and publications are available and downloadable. The monthly Drucker Report is browsable in full text. Other printed and video resources are available for purchase through a link to Amazon.com. This is a great jumping-off point for those managers interested in participating with the social sector to create a vital community. Networking starts here, with a collection of links to foundations, umbrella organizations, guides and resources, business schools and news and publications. Strategy & Business- Billed as 'the gathering place for today's and tomorrow's business leaders', this site is an extension of the 'Strategy & Business' magazine, and forms part of the wider site of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, by its own reckoning, one of the world's largest management and technology consultancy firms. The site is split into articles, quotes, book reviews, upcoming issues, and beyond S&B. The 'articles' section enables you to access and search fully on past issues of the journal, while the 'beyond S&B' provides 'hot links' to a large number of other top sites. Here you will find the 'Fortune' 500 companies, ranked and dissected; two sites chosen for their 'strategy & management' expertise; top sites for various industries; the top ten business schools; and top search tools. Numerous links are included to sites such as 'The Economist', Harvard Business School and the Yahoo home page. A graphically pleasing, content rich, and well-organized site, which appears to be updated regularly. The Wall Street Executive Library- An index of business reference links for the busy executive, the three main sections: 'News/Reference', 'Business and Finance' and 'Personal' are further subdivided into succinct subject categories which yield even more extensive lists of links. Prides itself on the currency and availability of its links and your reviewer can vouch for a 100% success rate in the sites opened. In addition to its wealth of resource links, also posts headline news relevant to each subject category. Does by its very nature require working through an additional layer in the retrieval of information but ultimately saves time by not having to bookmark individual sites - this single site is all you need. The Boston Consulting Group- This is the site of the strategic and general management consulting firm, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). An interesting feature to be found here is an interactive strategic management case - taking the role of a new associate member of the firm, you are invited to try your hand at consulting. While not an actual BCG case, it has all the elements of an actual assignment, including time deadlines and working weekends. If you follow the links to the strategy section from the home page, you will also find a useful section on 'ideas', which contains a number of brief (1000-word) 'perspectives' essays on business theory and practice for senior executives. Biztravel.com- If you travel frequently on business, then this magazine can save time and money. It primarily provides news and trends information and has sections on 'Executive travel', 'Executive getaways' and 'Conventions and meetings'. Should you want to, you can also submit your own travel stories. Promised features include a 24 hour business travel booking service, and a forum for travelers to share tips and experiences. Buckman Laboratories Knowledge Nurture Home Page- From the initial welcome, the visitor proceeds through a virtual tour of Buckman Laboratories. Designed for internal organizational use the site is also a host for the worldwide knowledge management community of practitioners, academics and thinkers. Entering the library introduces the visitor to a wealth of published resources on knowledge management in addition to related areas such as leadership, organizational learning and competitive intelligence. The meeting room provides a forum for discussion and the event board broadcasts useful and timely details on upcoming industry conferences. Cross indexing aids in the location of material on the site which is designed for easy navigation. The contents are suitable for the knowledge management practitioner as well as students in the area. Competitive Business Strategy Group- Although essentially a stylish advert for Competitive Business Strategy Group (CBSG), a management consulting operation, once visitors have read about CBSG's partnering, training and mentoring style, they can also check out articles from a quarterly newsletter (client or not, the newsletter can be e-mailed to you), along with press releases and links to reprints touching on several pertinent management issues. Advertises upcoming briefings and seminars, attendance at which may give potential clients a chance to try before they buy. Clearly set out and well targeted towards senior management. The Emerging Markets Companion- Claiming to be a ‘comprehensive information service for emerging markets’, this Web site offers regularly updated (at least daily) financial news and investment information from the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America, Africa and eastern Europe. Launched in 1996, the sites draws on the resources of a number of well-respected news and investment organizations, with headline news reports, analysis and commentary provided by the likes of Reuters, Bloomberg, Credit Lyonnais, NatWest Markets and Stone & McCarthy. Also offered are news of conferences and events in the sphere and closing prices from around the world, and there is even basic background data on just what emerging markets are. A useful new facility allows you to search the content - which may help you to make sense of what is a valuable site for international businesses, but one that is unfortunately not easily navigated. Korn/Ferry International- Korn/Ferry offers an executive searching service to aid firms in strategic recruitment across several functional centres including board services, human resources and corporate communications, and its site demonstrates the company's understanding of industry, business and management issues facing organizations today. Provides reports on global hiring trends and short news items, along with access to the full range of Korn/Ferry services. Gives brief details of several Korn/Ferry publications, which can be ordered online, but allows full-text access to a number of short leadership articles. For the benefit of existing and potential clients, Korn/Ferry's stock market performance is made available. Management Research- This site provides a discussion forum exploring management research methodology, training needs, networking and the dissemination of research findings. Joining the listserver is easy with full instructions given. The archives are fully searchable, enabling the user to catch up prior to joining debates but, even more usefully, one can see who is saying what about a favorite topic. I have been particularly impressed by the speed with which points are answered although I can't guarantee this level of service on every topic. Work.com- A Dow Jones and Excite@Home joint venture, Work.com is a resource directory that combines headline broadcasts with news and analysis to provide a comprehensive business bulletin. 'Top Business News' uncovers the big corporate stories of the day, and there's a quick glimpse at the status of the major worldwide stock markets. The directory of other Web business resources is a time-saver, with its categorization by subject and resource type and links to each of resource included. For more in-depth analysis of various aspects of management (from finance through marketing to IT), the 'How To' guides provide research, case study results and free tools for visitors to apply to their own workplaces. Succeeds in keeping the executive abreast of world headlines while also offering analysis and trends of the hot issues facing business today. All content is conveniently accessible via menu selection at the homepage. Coca-Cola Co.- Combines a timeline history of the company, its familiar products and branding with a more hard hitting section for investors that includes the company's earnings, stock values and shareholder information. Coca-Cola goes to great lengths to promote itself as an environmentally-responsible citizen and illustrates the scope of its activities through details of its community involvement. Everything you ever wanted to know about Coca-Cola but were afraid to ask can be found in 'Frequently Asked Questions', giving the company an opportunity to promote elements of its global, strategic view, production and marketing strength. Eye-catching in its red and white livery, navigation is OK once you get the hang of it if rather slow. Worldwide
