Oakland-based drama therapist, Armand Volkas, will direct the Acts of Reconciliation during the 17th Annual Holocaust Lecture Series at Sonoma State University. The presentation features Jews and Germans remembering their shared legacy by facing inner capacities for being both victim and oppressor, and taking steps toward healing their personal and collective wounds. Through drama, music, poetry, movement, ritual, dialogue and therapeutic processes, participants will give shape and meaning to their Holocaust legacies. Volkas, born in France in 1961, grew up with the painful burdens of the past. Both parents fought in the Resistance and his mother was at Auschwitz in Block 10, where Joseph Mengele performed medical experiments on prisoners.
The presentation begins May 2 at 4 p.m. in the Warren Auditorium, Ives Hall and is free to the public. For more information contact Armand Volkas at (510) 655-5186 or e-mail avolkas@aol.com.
