On Thursday, May 11th, Sonoma State University celebrates its fourth annual Founder's Day. The event commemorates the University's founding and kicks off the school's 40th Anniversary celebration. Founder's Day activities begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.
From 11 a.m. until noon in the Student Union Multi Purpose Room, Judge Joseph A. Rattigan will speak about his involvement with the founding of SSU. As a State Senator, Judge Rattigan championed legislation to establish Sonoma State College in 1960. In 1994 Sonoma State University awarded Judge Rattigan an honorary Doctor of Law in recognition of his extraordinary public service achievements.
At noon, the University's birthday celebration begins in the main quad. The party will feature music from the past four decades, historical photos, light refreshments and birthday cake. As part of the celebration, Sonoma State's Student Ambassadors will host "SSU Know," a history challenge bowl in which teams of alumni, retirees, faculty, staff and students will compete to answer trivia questions about Sonoma State University's history.
Founder's Day is sponsored by the SSU Student Ambassadors. For more information, call (707) 664-2426.
