Herbert M. Dwight to Receive Honorary Doctorate from Sonoma State University

Herbert M. Dwight of Santa Rosa will be awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by Sonoma State University and the Board of Trustees of the California State University System at the university's commencement ceremonies on May 26.

Sonoma State University President Ruben Arminana said "Herb Dwight has distinguished himself throughout his life as a highly respected engineer and prominent business and community leader. He has been a valued friend and advisor to Sonoma State University."

Dwight has been the visionary president and chief executive officer of three companies, including Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. in Sonoma County. Widely recognized for his business acumen, he has served as a director of more than a dozen companies during his career.

His talent has led him to leadership positions in many professional organizations, including chairman of the American Electronics Association and co-founder and president of the World Business Forum. Community service has been a hallmark of Dwight's life. He was campaign chair for United Way of Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino Counties and Santa Clara County.

He previously served as a trustee of Stanford University and as president of the Stanford Alumni Board. He has been a member of the Sonoma State University Advisory Board since 1992.
