MORE FAQS (PDF)

1. I need advising, I'd like to make an appointment, etc.

Faculty are available during their open office hours. Office hours are posted on faculty office doors, on the department bulletin boards inside the office, and on this website. If you cannot come in during an instructor's open office hours, call or email the instructor to ask about scheduling an appointment. Office staff do not make appointments for faculty. Be sure to come in before finals week during the semester prior to the one you would like to discuss. If you need advising before you register for classes be sure to come in before your scheduled registration appointment. Regular office hours start on the first day of class and end on the last day of class each semester. Faculty are not on campus on a regular basis during the summer or intersession.

2. How do I add or drop a class?

Go to the class and let the instructor know that you want to add. If there is room in the class the instructor will ask you for your student ID number. The instructor will then give your information to the Administrative Coordinator so that she can authorize you to add. You must still go online to officially add the course. All drops are also done online. Any adds or drops after the add/drop period will be charged an administrative fee of $20 per class.

3. I need to add an Internship, I need internship paperwork, etc.

Internship paperwork is in the black vertical file in the Sociology Office, Stevenson Hall 2084. Instructions for completing this paperwork and how to add an internship to your schedule are included. You need to allow plenty of time to get all the required signatures. Any internships added after census date will be charged a $20 administrative fee.

4. Where do I find an internship?

Career Services (Salazar 1070) has information on available internships, as well as other career resources. Drop by or check out their website:
http://www.sonoma.edu/sas/crc/. We post all internship opportunities we receive on the bulletin board to your left as you come into the office. Discuss your ideas and interests with your professors. They may know of an organization that fits your interests and needs. Also, you may approach an organization that you would like to work with and develop an internship on your own.

5. How do I access my User ID and Password?

You can get your User ID and Password online from any computer with a web browser. Go to the Admissions and Records website and select online services: www.sonoma.edu/ar/registration/at_a_glance.shtml.

6. I want to change my major/minor to Sociology. How do I do that?

To apply to declare or change your major to Sociology you must have completed Soc 201 with a grade of "B" or higher. See an Advisor to discuss your application. Next, complete a Change of Major form (available in our office) in consultation with the Department Chair. You may apply to change your major at any time during the semester.

To apply to declare Sociology as your minor you must consult with an Advisor, complete a Change of Minor form (available in our office), and then meet with the Department Chair. You may apply to declare your minor at any time during the semester.

7. I need a copy of my student file/transcripts, etc.

With a valid Student ID card you may check out your file at any time to make copies of its contents. Photocopy machines are available in the Student Union or Library for your use. Please return your file in a timely manner. Your unoffical transcript is available in Peoplesoft.
