This Friday: Spring '23 Noma Nation Orientation

Dear Sonoma State Employees,

We are looking forward to welcoming our new Spring ‘23 Noma Nation transfer and first year students on Friday, December 2nd!  

As campus partners, we want to make sure that you have adequate information to support our newest students. Below is information about the schedule for the day. We all set the tone on days like this, so thank you in advance for sharing this information with your teams and bringing your Seawolf pride!

Overview of Spring ‘23 Orientation:

  • The Noma Nation Orientation is for first year and transfer students who are admitted to begin their SSU journey in Spring 2023. 

  • In-Person: Approximately 250 students will take part in the in-person orientation.

  • Virtual: Any student who could not attend in person will be able to join virtually via Zoom and will receive a recording of the day, as well as the slide decks. 

  • Parking for Orientation students is in J Lot. Parking attendants will provide passes at the main entrance 

  • Most sessions will occur in the Student Center, Ballrooms B/C/D.

  • More than half of the attendees have received advising and registered for Spring ‘23 classes

  • For those who have not yet received advising or have further advising and registration questions, they will be able to do so following the Transfer Center session via breakout sessions by population. See below for breakout group and location.

    • EOP: CAASE computer lab (1st Floor, Schulz Library)

    • MAVRC (Veterans): MAVRC (1st Floor, Schulz Library)

    • DSS (Disability Services for Students): Schulz 1014 (lab next to DSS)

    • TRiO: CAASE lounge (1st Floor, Schulz Library)

    • FTFY (First Time First Year): Advising Center, (1st Floor, Schulz Library)

    • Athletes: Student Center 3021 (SA Conference Room)

  • For those who have already registered, they will be able to explore the resource tables in the prefunction hallway, Ballroom E, located between Student Center Ballroom A and B/C/D.

  • Lunch for the Orientation students will be at The Kitchens. Attendees just need their name tag to enter.

By the end of the day, our goals are to make sure they know our campus resources, receive their academic advising, register for Spring ‘23 courses, and depart knowing that they are happy with their choice to attend Sonoma State.
