Dr. Karina Nielsen of the biology department just started up with and on going research project.

The project that the DRC was given was to reproduce the coring tool used to gather samples.

Working from photo we reproduced own own version... however faithful to the current device.

That a great team effort on this project...

These coring tools are made from aluminum 4" diameter with a wall thickness of 0.07". This seems simple enough but it was tough to find.

Thanks to Aaron Agostini a grad student (working with Dr. Cohen) we were able to locate some stock in woodland Ca.

Welding is the choice for assembly. Thanks to Packard Plumping in Graton (He is also a metal artiest) we were able to get these tools the Dr. Nielsen's group.
