APARTMENT ON THE ILE SAINT LOUIS. Come and enjoy the Paris Indian Summer on the beautiful Ile St Louis. Charming atelier-like apartment for rent anytime between August 12 and September 9 (or later in the fall by arrangement). It's a 17th century (converted bakery!) apartment on the central (and coveted) Ile St Louis. A quiet and friendly little village in itself, right in the heart of historic Paris. The apartment has thick stone walls, skylights, and the traditional wood beam ceiling. It's rez de chaussée (ground floor) so there are no pesky stairs to climb. The apartment is large at 60 square meters with one main room that includes the dining area, living room (sunken) and bedroom (raised); a jardin d'hiver (winter garden), and a separate study with windows facing the street (rue St Louis en l'Ile). The bed is a double bed and the living-room sofa also converts to a futon bed. The sofa in the study also converts to a bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, gas range, and microwave, as well as a washer and fridge. The bathroom was recently remodeled and has a shower, plenty of cupboard space, as well as a heated towel rack. You'll have TV (with French channels as well as BBC, Sky News, and CNN), DVD/CD player, wifi connection, and a library of guide books, CDs, and DVDs. What I like best about the island is how central it is and how wonderful it is to come home in the evening across one of its many bridges. There is almost always a street musician on the bridge to add beauty to your day. Plus a great open market close by on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. PARIS/SAN FRANCISCO or MARIN APARTMENT SWAP. If you or anyone you know might be interested in swapping their San Francisco or Marin apartment with ours in Paris, for anywhere from 1-3 months this summer: We are a young French-American family with two kids, almost 3 and 1, and we are planning on spending this coming June, July, and August in San Francisco, where we lived for 7 years before moving here last spring. I will be working in Golden Gate Park every morning, so we have to be within reasonable commuting distance from there, which is why I say SF or Marin. We were in child care in the San Francisco for many years and have dozens upon dozens of local references as to our character, responsibility, and reliability. Ours is cozy, quiet, typical family neighborhood and a great opportunity to see the REAL France, get beyond the touristy and unwelcoming Paris facade, and really immerse yourself in normal, modern, French life.
