Welcome Veterans, to the SSU Veterans Affairs Office

The Sonoma State University Veterans Affairs Office assists veterans, reservists, and dependents of service-disabled or deceased veterans with educational benefits. Staff is available to provide assistance with completing and filing VA claim forms for federal and state education assistance programs. Staff can also provide information to assist students who are sponsored by one of the VA Fee Waiver programs for dependents and disabled veterans.

Active Duty Educational Assistance Program

Active Duty Educational Assistance Program, generally for individuals who entered active duty after June 30, 1985 and served continuously for three years or by serving two years on active duty followed by four years of Selected Reserve. To be eligible, veterans must have contributed $1200 during their first year of military service. Veterans or service personnel cannot withdraw money paid into the fund. Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

The Secretaries of each military service, Department of Defense, and Department of Homeland Security (Coast Guard) determine the criteria for eligibility. The law requires DoD to give you written notification of eligibility for REAP. A member of a reserve component who serves on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 under title 10 U.S. Code for a contingency operation and who serves at least 90 consecutive days or more is eligible for Chapter 1607. Disabled Veterans Assistance

Vocational Rehabilitation for service-connected disability of 20% or greater. Benefit provides a monthly stipend and covers the cost of tuition, books and supplies. Eligibility is determined on an individual case basis. Read more Disabled Veterans Assistance
