This fall, Opera Scenes students will choose their favorite song, which can be in any genre or style, and prepare it musically and with attention to its context, lyrics, themes, and anything else of performance import or that makes it a favorite. After these songs are chosen, we will find operatic repertoire that incorporates themes, stylistic elements, or other commonalities with these favorite songs and weave them into a staged program of around 70 minutes. This piece will include dialogue created by the class, and will be staged in a way that teaches basic stagecraft, acting, and the ability to move and perform confidently. In the end, the students and their audience will learn about the centrality of opera in the development of music history, and all will connect viscerally to the art form through vibrant performance.
*All in-person performances are subejct to change if necessary. Notice will be given if a change occurs.
